Customer Reviews:
Nothing less than a miracle.......2007-01-08
This album is a miracle. I could stop here and you have enough words to understand the level this album belongs to. I'm bored when I read reviews where people point out a music as too technical or stuff like this. This music is technical for sure but it is absolutly marvellous and totally blazing on the emotional level. This album is a trip. When I listen to this one sometimes I find myself unable to listen to nothing else for a while. Technique is not against emotions especially in albums like this one! If you are not skilled enough to appreciate the beauty these players produced here, please, don't write reviews! This album is flamenco, jazz, classical, latin, it is simply three mindblowing musicians that united to produce the last word in acoustic guitar music and an unbelievable chapter in the history of music. But this album is not only incredible for guitarists, it is fantastic for everyone because the songwriting is amazing. The credits go to the three of them infact they choosed to record tunes from each one of them (two tunes each) and I can't say which are the best!! And every tune is the perfect sequel to the one that preceed it. It seems as it has been written by one single pen. This cd is even a fantastic audio experience if you have a good hi end system. Even if the tones could be better, the dynamic is there and you can hear each player on a different channel, so you have John in the centre, Paco on the right channel and Al on the left channel. You can recognize easily their different styles. You can follow the dialogs they are having improvising on these marvellous tunes. I own this one since 1990 I guess. It still impress me for the technical abilities of the solos and the compings, it still amazes me for the songwriting skills of these guys, and delight me on the emotional level each time I decided to take it out the vaults. A gem.
All hands, no heart.......2006-02-01
I can't give this a CD bad rating; these guys are good. I mean, really, really good.
But I can't really give it a top rating, either. The entire CD is really a show-off session for their technical skills, at the expense of containing much really enjoyable guitar music.
In fact, I almost wonder if the trio format forces them to do this. Maybe each of the 3 worried that they'd be singled out in reviews as the "weak" one of the group, who didn't show much technique next to the other guys.
In any case, if you're a hard-core guitar-technique afficionado, you'll certainly be impressed. But if you're looking for some engaging guitar music you might pass on this one.
Better live with Steve Morse in tow but still too flamenco. .......2005-06-04
Long-TimeGuitarist (Texas) wrote: "My apologies to Satriani/Vai/Johnson, but these guys are THE original guitar trio."
My "apologies" but you're wrong too!! The "original" guitar trio was Coryell/McLaughlin/De Lucia - Meeting of the Spirits, then Larry had to leave and was replaced Di Meola. Do your homework boy!! After Live In San Francisco there was a reunion CD in 1996. From what I've read though, I doubt there'll be another including Al.
Listen to the original "G3" first, then check out the others.......2004-08-10
My apologies to Satriani/Vai/Johnson, but these guys are THE original guitar trio. Each has a unique style, but somehow it all works together brilliantly. The compositions range from soft and mellow to all-out explosiveness. For anyone who thinks guitar wizards like the aforementioned G3, Malmsteen, Van Halen, etc. are the greatest guitarists of this era - better save a spot for DiMeola, DeLucia, and McLaughlin. These guys are playing acoustic guitars, not tricked-out electrics with lots of special effects. Besides all of that, this album is very listenable and the intensity of the performances is uplifting.
OH MY LORD...THIS ISN'T HUMAN!!!.......2003-11-23
Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, and Paco De Lucia produce some of the finest acoustic guitar work ever recorded. Everything about this album is perfect. They play Flamenco the way it's meant to be played. If you're looking for something that obliterates the likes of Ottmar Liebert, "Passion, Fire, and Grace" is it. Don't take my word for it; listen for yourself!
