My Favourite Spyro Gyra Album.......2006-11-13

This is a top end smooth jazz album, with a dazzling collection of melodies.Listening to this album in my new A4- I just dont want to stop driving. Drive on Spyro Gyra!!!

The Deep End - Spyro Gyra.......2005-10-24

This is got to be one of Spyro Gyra's best albums released to date. This group is amazing considering they have been around for more than 30 years.

Spyro Gyra, The Deep End.......2005-08-18

(I wrote a review on this last year, but here I have updated my last review and have corrected some of the errors in my past review.)

This is the new release from Spyro Gyra. The most current cd by this wonderful group at the time of this writing. (August 3, 2004) And what a release it was. As soon as I bought this cd, I immediately found myself humming the songs on this cd. There are some good things also about this cd. Like the appearence of old time Spyro Gyra member, Dave Samuels. He appears on several songs, on the vibes. The new drummer, Ludwig Afonso as well as their old drummer, Joel Rosenblatt appear here. Also, drummer Billy Kilson plays on some tracks. Some interesting musicians appear here like a trumpeter and several percussionists. Some highlights are Summer Fling, Monsoon, Wiggle Room, and Chippewa Street. This album is most unlike any album Spyro Gyra has yet to put out. One of the best releases of 2004!

this is the most amazing contemp jazz album i have heard! smooth yet modernly powerful and constant groove! FANTASTIC writing and musicianship showcased in track 3, monsoon...amazing! beckenstein is at the TOP is my list for sax players, his virtuocity comes across in the album as experienced, ultra creative and full of feeling. all i can say about this album is i was completely blown away from the first time i heard it, and listen to it constantly! WOW!!!

A contemporary jazz reference.......2005-02-28

Spyro Gyra has managed to produce a very beautiful, creative and powerful album in "Deep End". The music has great groves, beautiful mellodies, skillfull instrumentation, inspired guitar and sax solos and the power of putting it all together in such a way that its energy really lifts your spirit up.

Spyro Gyra's "Deep End" is great music to listen to or to use as an elegant background for your activities. Please do not confuse this great band and its meaningful music with the many bland and boring artists that are smooth jazz wannabies. This is great contemporary jazz -- it comes across smooth, but in this case that is not by any means a way to hide mediocre musicmanship.

If you would like to try a few tracks I recommend you listen to Monsoon and The Crossing, both will give you a great idea of what to expect here. Enjoy.
