2 out of 5 stars First Major Debut With The Same Redundant Flow (Rating: 5 out of 10- -2.5 Stars).......2007-02-27

I used to live in San Antonio, Texas between 2000-2004. Somewhere around that time one of my friends put in some chopped & screwed mixtape by some guy named Mike Jones. I thought it was okay at best, although he did have somewhat of a flow. One thing I seemed to notice in his songs was the repititon of his name "Mike Jones. WHO? Mike Jones. WHO?", as well as repeating the same line 4 times so he can have his verse the full 16 bars. I thought, "Okay...maybe he is trying to do something different. I don't know..." Well then his debut dropped in 2005, and guess what? His flow has not changed one bit. He still shouts out his name throughout his tracks and repeats the same line four times in many of his songs. Now he had brought a new gimmick, saying his phone number in his songs as well (I guess I wasn't the only person who dialed that number). So really his flow really hasn't changed at all since I first heard him, which was somewhere in late 2003 (which is funny because he said at that time "Who Is Mike Jones" comming soon).

I won't lie though. I was hyped up to see Texas artists finally get their albums out (Slim Thug, Pall Wall, Chamillionare, and of course Mike Jones). I bought this the same week it came out for my support, only to be dissapointed. And to the day I'm typing my review, I've only played this a total of three times, and had very much trouble making it to the end of this album. A lot of these songs have absolutely no replay value. "Type Of N**** U Need" and "Cuttin' (remix)" are some of the worst tracks that I've heard from Mike Jones.

There are some tracks that I liked. Ironically the two singles were the best songs on his album. "Still Tippin'" with the help of Slim Thug and Pall Wall was probably the best song on the album. And a close second was "Back Then" which if you haven't already noticed, the chorus is from "Still Tippin". "Five Years From Now" is okay, so I'll call that my honorable mention track.

So "Who Is Mike Jones?" was a horrible CD, although I admit it was catchy (that might explain why it went platnum). I really can't recommend this to anyone, except those of Texas music as well as Chopped & Screwed music (the version I had came with a chopped & screwed CD). Even so, I know for a fact Texas is more capable of this. If you want anything from Texas, give Slim Thug, Chamillionare, Lil Flip, or even UGK a listen. I just cannot recommend this to anyone else. Hopefully while he is recording his next CD, he thought about changing his flow. Word.

1 out of 5 stars Who Mike Jones? Who Cares?.......2006-03-23

Mike Jones isn't anything different. Still Tippin is talking about what every other rapper has already covered. Who cares if your "tippin" on 4 4s? All the other songs are just basic rap songs with no real meaning. Also, how many times does this guy need to say his name or give out his phone number?

1 out of 5 stars worse rapper award goes to who mike jones.......2006-03-21

this is sad a disgrace for hiphop houston had better rappers back in the day geto boys, tmt, big mike, big mello, ganksta nip, terrorists, klondike kat, devin the dude, 5th ward boyz, tela now we get clowns like mike jones tired of seeing ignorant fools show their gold teeth reminds me of bill robinson, and stepin fetchit they sure would lovbe grills if they was living today mike's music sucks all he does is repeat himself over and over and who wanna call your cel phone I dont.

4 out of 5 stars 4 stars and here is why..........2006-03-19

Ok granted Mike Jones is FAR from the best rapper but yet he still manages his flow and sound to be hot. He says his name to the point where you wanna gun butt the nicca, but yet it still makes you shout WHO? And lastly, all the hype is just about worth it cuz he was the one who REALLY opened the doors for the current H town domination of hip hop. DJ SCREW and 'Face and a few others are the fathers but it's Jones who brought screwed n chopped to the mainstream, or rather they came to him. I can't call him a sellout cuz he did it like ol Blue Eyes did...HIS WAY!
So now to the album, we all know how infectiously catchy and dope "Still tippin" and "Back then" were and still are! So what if they were played to def, you gonna say "Goldigger" isn't and that's a far inferior jam! There are cuts that are just so so, no doubt, but his bangers like the aforementioned as well as "Turning Lane", "5 years from now" and "Cuttin" are some bangers f*** where ya from! I say you cannot look at Mike Jones for his lyrical ability, its obvious he is not up to the marker, but ahem, neither is a certain Missa West, but it's the beats, the sound, just the whole feel of this album that makes it the undeniable screwed and chopped CLASSIC that it is. They are screwing and choppin friggin Britney Spears and Ashanti nowadays, and that is wack, but the trend had to eventually hit the big time. Mike don't care bout dat he doin his thing and doing it well, with authenticity. That is reason enough, if you LIKE H town screwd n chopped muzik, to support him and cop this and all his albums. And of course, we have to mention that "drank" yup that lean! I never had the chance to lean but I have been inebriated on DXM which I hear is similar to the Codeine Promethezine high, and let me tell you...this album made so much SENSE haha! I won't say that is the reason I bump this and like it so much, but if you happen to be sippin barre, then this is the guidebook right here! JEAH!

5 out of 5 stars Mike Jones... who? Mike jones!.......2006-02-26

Ok. Im going to say this once. For the record. Mike Jones is awesome. Mike jones is paving his own way into the rap industry the same way Ludacris and Kanye West have. Mike jones' got skill. I dont know why you people want to hate on him. yes, his says his name. Thats his style. Its funny to hear you all complain about him repeating stuff, but not get annoyed by " GGGGGGGG unit, GGGGGGG unit, GGGGGGG unit... 'im out of verses I dont know what else to say... hmmm.. i know... GGGGGG unit' " more like G UNOT! (by the way, The Game destroyed g-unit as a camp, a label (...)- Get all The Game's mixtapes, they are hot!! G UNOT!!) Stop hating on Mike Jones. He's hot. I dont see any of you clowns in the induestry. When you are there, then talk about people. In the meanwhile, keep it to yourself. Stop sippin on that Hatorade and sip on some purp. For you cool homies, there were the tracks that stood out:

- Still Tippin
- Flossin
- Scandalous Hoes
- Turning Lane
- Cuttin (remix)
- What Ya Know About
- Know What Im Saying (Bun B spits fire)

Go get it and get ready for his next album "The American Dream"
