Customer Reviews:
headphones required.......2005-10-26
i bought this album from Japanese producer Tomoki Kanda because of his involvement with the singer Chocolat, whose albums i really liked. this cd shows Kanda's exquisite touch in the studio. the sound quality is nothing short of amazing and the warm tones that he draws out are refreshing and exhilerating. his pieces mostly get their inspiration from French pop and lite electro music. the most stunning cuts on this record are the simple numbers like "Safari" and the impressive percussive rush of "String Driven Thing." most of these songs are instrumental and it works best that way. when there are vocals, they tend to take away some of the substance to the music, as on "A Ray Of Sunshine" where Miyako Kobayashi's singing just isn't enough to keep the melody afloat. there are some really beautiful songs on her that deserve to be fully absorbed...preferably, on a big set of expensive headphones.
