Customer Reviews:
Amina is irresistable!.......2003-05-24
I did not think that after "Wa di ye" that she would get any better but i was wrong, this one is an album that proves how much amina is growing into an eclectic monster in her field, but i have to say i prefer Amina singing in her tunisian dialect & french much better than singing in english but still, i found this album absolutely pulsating. Im not a fan of arabic songs but her style & voice are just entrancing. Songs to look out for in this one are lirrili, dis moi pour quoi, Allah ya moulena, karma karma, les mots blues. The rest are great too but those stick out above the others. Does anyone know when does she intend to record a new album?
Annabi.......2001-05-30
Well Amina seems to be getting better with each CD. I really liked a couple of tracks from the first CD Yalil, her second CD only one track stood out & the rest was ok but this one is head & shoulders above those previous two.
Top tracks are C'est Gai, Lirrilli, Dis-Moi Pourquoi (Hip Hop Mix) & Men Jibb is fantastic. The rest of the album is very good, mixing the usual Arabic & French, this time around an English track is included.
Her beautiful, powerful voice & the music blend to create an indescribable mood that tends to make your mind ponder things deep inside. Definitely one of my favorite albums & well worth the money I spent.
Interesting.......2001-03-04
But not really my cup of tea. I bought this cd based on the sterling reviews I read here; and if you don't mind run-of-the-mill, synthed-out background instrumentation, then you may very well find this recording satisfying. I just wish the music matched her unique vocal style. There are some interesting things here, namely Anina's ability to sing in Arabic, French and English on different tracks and somehow make them all sound like they belong on the same cd. No small feat. One can only hope that Anina chooses better and more challenging musical accompaniment in the future--then we would truly have something special on our hands.
Amina gets better and better........2000-11-05
Annabi is the definitely the best CD I've bought in a long while. I bought Wa Di Ya years ago and then recently bought Yalil and Annabi. All of the songs are of a different style, but all modern, hip, Eastern meets Western music. Whether she sings in French, English or Arabic her voice is a pure pleasure to listen to from the sultry "L'Inconditionnel Amour" to the rocking "Lirrili". I can't wait for Amina's next CD
Absolutely Fantastic! Delightful re-discovery for me!.......2000-04-09
I vaguely remembered that there was s superhit "Belly Dancer", but I never bothered to see, who actually sang it, untill recently, that is....When, by accident, I have read another review, I became intrigued and I went to amazon.de to get songs's samples. I was stunned! Speechless! Absolutely blown away. I now remembered the voice of Amina and I was so pleasantly surprised that she had "Annabi" released in 1999. All tracks are absolutely great! Apart from her wonderful voice, I was taken by what she and her colleagues achieve by mixing Arabic, French, and Hip-Hop music. Two tracks that Amina sings in English are also such an interesting undertaking. Her French accent only adds to the pleasure, instead of irritating. Amina's work shows that there is no way to separate the mutual influence of Frech and Arabic cultures on each other. It is a result of many-many years of interaction between the two, but see what Amina does with it! Not only that, but she manages to successefully use hip-hop in arabic language, and not too many non-American artists can do it with the same degree of success (in truth, there is actually a counter-part in Arabic musical culture to what is now known as "Hip-Hop"). This album is modern, hip, and yet so Eastern and magical. But, it is not all... You should see the CD box cover... Visually, this CD is the most beautiful one in my vast collection now. Print quality is simply Superb! So, don't think about the price, buy it, 'cos if you love French/Arabic/Eastern/Disco music you will not be dissapointed!
