Enthusiasm.......2007-02-28
I've owned the CD for years and, to this day, whenever I need a pick me up, I just pop it in the player. I have to admit that I'm a yankee but I've lived in LA for a number of years. One early morning during Mardi Gras, on a long drive home from working a night shift in Mandeville, I heard (for the first time) "They all asked for you" and it immediately put a smile on my face. When I got home, I searched for the song on Amazon and bought the CD immediately. Although many of the songs are covers, overall it really captures that feeling you get when you walk through the French Quarter and hear Zydeco. I'm certainly not an expert on Zydeco Music, but if you're looking for a Zydeco CD that makes you happy and feel like dancing, buy it. I've played the CD in the company of people from all over the country and everyone loves it.
Third Time's a Charm.......2000-01-19
"Turn up the Zydeco", the third outing for Rockin' Dopsie Jr. and the Zydeco Twisters, is the most eclectic yet for this group. Since assuming the helm of the band on the passing of his father (Zydeco legend Alton "Rockin' Dopsie" Rubin), bandleader and rubboard player David Rubin (Rockin' Dopsie Jr.) has successfully blended even more elements of contemporary r&b, jazz, and classic rock n' roll, while maintaining the infectious dance rhythms that is the hallmark of Zydeco music. High points of the CD are the band's covers of the Zydeco standards "Hot Tamale Baby" and "Zydeco Boogaloo" showcasing accordionist Anthony (Tiger Dopsie) Rubin's electric riffs. If you've been curious about zydeco but have had limited exposure, this album will serve as an excellent eye-opener - and don't be surprised if you get the urge to zydeco dance halfway through the first track.
