5 out of 5 stars Towering Tenor: The Great Buti Stands Alone.......2003-10-18

In the annals of twentieth century recorded tenor artistry, Carlo Buti stands alone. Today, one has to have a metallic, monochromatic, "pinched" voice that strains to outdo the tenor of yesterminute in order to win the approbation of a musically and historically illiterate audience in search of a superficial thrill. The voice of Carlo Buti, in contrast, is a warm, molten, ductile, supple, golden voice blessed with impressive scale range and power. This is a voice that can focus on the head of a pin in perfect pitch and draw a sostenuto to infinity. Although a just comparison cannot legitimately be made, those who have not heard Buti can expect to savor a synthesis of John McCormack, Beniamino Gigli, Enrico Caruso, Jussi Bjorling, and Armen Girag in the timbre of this great tenor. Moreover, this is a voice with an uncanny ability to express the entire pageantry of human emotion, from the night wind in the waste places to plaintive nostalgia to gaudium essendi. Buti's voice is prismatic, a veritable spectrum of living color. But we must not forget the man behind the voice: a supremely intelligent artist possessed of impeccable taste, uncompromising musicianship, vocal and diaphragmatic control, and aristocratic articulation/phraseology skill. The effect on the hearer is nothing less than an ecstatic experience.

5 out of 5 stars Bravo Buti, Bravissimo!.......2001-11-08

Popular and Neapolitan song in the years 1935-1955 was embodied by Carlo Buti. Preferring to sing opera, but lacking a tenor's range, he decided to become - of all things - a cobbler, rather than a singer. It is said that the woman he fell in love with influenced him to record a popular tune. The rest as they say is history: there is no point in saying how successful he became; suffice it to say that all popular singers who heard him, to this day, have imitated his style - and his French counterpart Tino Rossi's - with varying degrees of success. So, Bravo Carlo, Bravissimo!

5 out of 5 stars Carlo Butti Music CD.......2001-09-06

This is a marvelous CD of some of the most beautiful Italian everyday music. It is a throwback of the best kind to the 40's and 50's when Sunday radio broadcasting had the Italian Hour with much of this very music. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Truly genuine Italian melodies.......2001-02-03

To listen to this CD was for me a deeply emotional journey back to my early youth. The most dear and popular songs brought me back half a century to re-live those days long gone but never forgotten.
