Customer Reviews:
Italian Bossa.......2002-12-17
From Irma Jazz (same label that features Bossa Nostra and I believe Montefiori Cocktail and DJ Rodriguez) is their addition in the heavily populated Bossa market. And where this one stands is somewhere right in the middle - not quite Break & Bossa level, and unique from Bossa Tres... Jazz all in its own.
The feel of the album is very cafe-ish. The cd does flow nice, and the feel is bright, lively, and "happy". A few of the tracks, like the ITalian Secret Service's selection, are very cheesy, and I admit I'm not a big fan of the Montefiori Cocktail track included. However, you do find decent samba like gropus and different acts, like Banda Favela and DJ Rodriguez pipes in from the beginning with a "Fantastic Plastic" feeling (IMO) track.
Curiously, in the end of the CD you hear a track which has a percussion line that is 100% Nicola Conte's "Bossa Per Due" - yet with sleighbells in the background and different/male vocals? What was up with that? It's not Bossa Per Due - it is a different song. But if you hear it - you'll know what i mean.
The real gem on this cd - the Joao Donato interpretation of "Ra". It is my favorite of the many that are out there. ALl in all, I would recommend this - if you happen to have "Cafe Noir"'s Cocktail/Lounge, you would like this. It features a few different renditions of the tracks on that cd. NOT the Cafe Noir Bossa Brasil, but the Cafe Noir Cocktail/Lounge. You may also want to check out Eighteenth Street Lounge Jet Society - which is better quality than both, IMO.
