5 out of 5 stars Wonderful!.......2002-05-15

This album is nothing but a masterpiece. A must have for anyone who likes Brazilian music.

5 out of 5 stars Moonlit Guitar.......2001-10-11

This gorgeous 1968 album marked Marcos Valle's return to the Brazilian homefront after several years riding the US 60s bossa nova wave. It's almost hard to believe that such a reflective, soul-searching masterwork should emerge mere months after the frothy, light, sun-kissed optimism of "Samba '68," but the truth is that 1968 was a politically hectic year in Brazil as elsewhere, and these songs convey that perfectly. Not one of Valle's more upbeat offerings, it nonetheless boasts masterful songwriting and flawless orchestrations and arrangements. It's a perfect listen on a rainy, overcast afternoon, which goes against the erroneous idea that Brazilians can only do the sunny, happy, upbeat thing. This album contains some of Valle's strongest and most enduring tunes, and proves his versatility once and for all. And, yeah, it also includes several sweet sambas as well! Truly beautiful, in the manner of the best work by Milton Nascimento (who, by the way, appears on two tracks). Don't pass up this album!
