This is a compilation of slower and more *romantic* songs largely featuring Brazilian artists and musicians off of the Stimulus label out of London. This easily attempts to follow in the mold of the Brazilian Love Affair series by the Far Out label, also in London. There's some overlap in this from their artists. But the question is, does it measure up?

The answer: Sort of. There are some good songs on this - opening up with EBTG's rendition of "Corcovado", first heard (by me at least) on Red Hot & Rio 10 yrs. ago. It's a pretty good drum & bass cut, released at aroudn the time of their popular "Walking Wounded" album. That's followed up by Cibelle's "Luisas", a pretty nice song with a 'walk in the night' feelt to it and then Marcos Valle's "Mushi Mushi" which is a song I don't care for. But the other cuts on this that I liked, Nina & Chris's "Agua", Fernanda Porto's "Jeito Novo", Vitor Ramil's "Valerie" and Ana de Hollanda's "Um Filme" were very nice selections too. However there were some headscratches with this - I'm probably one of a small crowd that just can't get into Zuco 103's vocals and a few other songs were pretty dull to me.

I recommend this to anyone that hasn't collected the Brazilian Love Affair releases or enjoys sappy slow 'love muzak'. But if you're looking for something more 'fresh', this isn't it; this has a 'mature' feel to it. And again not all of the songs got me - Joyce has better songs available and I just wasn't a fan of Celso Fonseca's duet with Cibelle in "She's a Carioca". If you do enjoy this, get the Brazilian Love Affair series while being careful of overlap. If you want something a bit more energetic or cutting edge, check out Brazilution 5, Brazilectro 3, Brazilation and 'Brazilove', which is unfortunately only avail. in Germany. You may also enjoy individual artists like Jane Duboc, Paulinho Moska, Moreno Veloso, Helena Noguerra and Bebel Gilberto.
