Only interesting for the fragments of Evita's speeches.......2003-12-31
Track 5: "Fragmento del Discurso Pronunciado Por Eva Perýn" - This is a fragment of the historic dialogue between Evita and the "Descamisados" (the Peronists of Argentina) that took place on August 22nd, 1951, in the Plaza de Mayo, in front of the Argentine capitol building, La Casa Rosada. Evita is pleading with the crowd to allow her a few days to make up her mind as to whether she'll run for vice president of the nation. They demand that she give her answer to them now, threatening to go on strike if she does not. The exchange is intense. You've never heard anything like it in Anglo-Saxon politics. It is a true dialogue between a chorus of people and their political leader. You can hear Evita's voice become hoarse from the strain of yelling. She has a deep, commanding voice. The crowd is estimated at two million. Never before in history had a female political figure drawn such a huge crowd. (For pictures of this historic event, I recommend EVITA: AN INTIMATE PORTRAIT OF EVA PERON.)
Track 11: "Fragmento del Mensaje de Eva Perýn Irradiado" - This is a speech delivered by Evita on September 28, 1951, from her bed in the presidential palace. (She is in bed because the cancer has made it difficult for her to stand.) Juan Peron's opponents in the military had attempted a coup earlier on this day, but members of the CGT - a group of unions - had thwarted the attempt. Evita thanks the Peronists over the radio, and asks them to pray for Peron, and asks for prayers that God may give her back her health. She says that she does not want her health back for her own sake, but to help Peron and the people: "Para mi no hay otra cosa en el mundo que el amor de Peron y de mi pueblo" ("For me, nothing in this world matters but the love of Peron and the people."). She soon breaks into tears.
If you want to hear rare, although brief, recordings of the voice of the real Eva Peron, then I recommend buying, "Evita: Quien Quiere Oir Que Oiga." The other tracks on this CD are not memorable.
