Customer Reviews:
Navarro: A New Spanish Star is Born.......2007-01-09
Diana Navarro is excelent. She is a natural born singer and her voice is unique. She is an extraordinary example of the new generation of the spanish singers.
A most gifted musician.......2006-05-17
I cannot agree more with the other reviewers. I saw Diana Navarro recently at a concert in Santa Fe (Granada, Spain) and was more than impressed. So much so that I would go as far as saying time almost stands still when she sings. I have been listening to practically nothing else for about a month now. And I live in a place where I am constantly bombarded with (frequently mediocre) Spanish music. Diana Navarro has everything it needs to become an enormous success. She simply oozes duende. She (and her band members) is a soulful musician.
If this is a taste of what is yet to come, I too, cannot wait until she releases more albums.
FLORES Y LAGRIMAS.......2006-05-05
To say that Diana Navarro has a unique, beautiful, touching voice is a perfect understatement. Forged in the tradition of "saetas" (a dramatic and breathtaking song traditionally sung during Holy Easter Season), hers is a voice of an incredible power and versatility, a voice that goes deep into your soul and grabs your heart, healing your pain with its ethnic taste.
"No te Olvides de Mi" (Don't Forget Me) is her first album, after years wandering around the musical suburbs. It is an eclectic mixture of Arabic sounds, acoustic melodies, and the raw melancholy of Flamenco.
"Sola" (Alone) is a classical composition, soft and bittersweet, and ode to a love that is long time gone. "No te Olvides de Mi" could be a naive lullaby about a passion that cannot be forgotten. "Ea" shows the influence of the Moroccan sounds in Spanish traditional music, with its drums and tension.
"Deja de volverme Loca" (Stop driving me crazy) must be a highlight in this preciously crafted piece of art. Its words are incredibly moving and touching: "Si pudiera mirarte un poquito, si pudiera tenerte un ratito...eso es lo que yo siento" (If only I could look at you for a moment, If only I could have you for a second...that's what I feel). "El Transito" (The transition) is a haunting song about the suffering of Jesus Christ, and the pain and tears of The Virgin Mary, the night her son died.
If a mere album could contain al the brilliancy, the burning fire of traditional Spanish music, and also combine it with the spicy kiss of eastern music, and modern sounds, "No te Olvides de Mi" would be, no question about it, that album, showing how primal and instinctive music is.
