Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Yet another surprising turn.......2002-09-17

Before I begin: in case you get confused, the actual title of the album is "The Star XVII". It's a reference to the specific tarot card :o)

Having come from the authentic R&B of "Daylight" (2000) and the smooth cosmopolitan ballads of "Shishir" (2001), it's still surprising that Sakura has taken another unexpected turn. She seems younger and more playful on this album, even sounding very eccentric (like Chara, if you know her) on some tracks. "The Star XVII" is a very bold artistic statement of what Sakura wants to be at this moment.

There are quasi-trance, electronic beats, singer-songwriter-style treatments, and some of Sakura's earlier signature ballads, and she pulls off everything beautifully. Having said that, the production isn't a very flashy one. Could it be limited budget? The quasi-trance never quite becomes trance, the beats don't sound as convincing as the best...
