4 out of 5 stars Explosion of drumming!.......2004-02-22

I am a big fan of Ginger Baker and this does not underestimate that he was and is a great drummer. The song Memory Lane is testament to that fact. In fact the whole album kicks major butt. Mad Jack is another story told rocker and it fits the bill perfectly. Don't pass this one up. There were two other albums that did well and shoudn't be passed up either. I was able to get my copy in vinyl from a friend who didn't know what he had. I popped it on my turntable and it has been spun. Really dig it lots.

I did it again! Bought a CD version of an album that I remembered sounded cool. OOPS. My memory is either REALLY bad or the ONE song that I really liked is not on this re-issue.One more for the recycle bin.In all fairness,IMO this CD needs to grow on you.

Playing it at a 70's theme party or getting drunk first may help.

4 out of 5 stars Brilliant Stuff Here.......2001-01-21

Worth it just for the epic "Mad Jack" about a mythical race to Argungu.

"Kept his wheels, And he kept his head, Kept his tiger, black, white and red."

It starts out pretty standard with verse/chorus/verse of kickin' hard rock. Then Ginger Baker gets on the mic with his (mock?) cockney accent telling a gripping story against a building background of keyboards and drums. By the end of the eight minutes, you almost are rooting for Mad Jack to win the race.

The rest of the album is interesting too, with blues and progressive rock thrown together in a mix that any Cream or '70's rock fan will appreciate.
