Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Confusing.......2005-07-13

First of all, i'm not really a fan of world music, so my review is biased.

I bought the album solely because I wanted a track by Peter Gabriel that was supposed to be on the album.

I listened to the CD all the way through (twice!) and didn't find it although he is mentioned on the CD information.

I found the CD to be repetitive and not too inspired.

Also, I was frustrated by the lack of information on the CD cover; no track names, times, artists, etc.

I guess that this type of info may not be important to a concept CD, but for someone trying to find a specific track it was a pain!

4 out of 5 stars One World One Voice..........2005-05-09

...this is probably a bit too soon for me to write a "worthy" review of this album because I've only listened myself through "One World..." a couple of times -but ,however, the first impression is very good indeed. I bought it first of all because I heard Sting contributed on this project, I am a big fan. The only annoying thing is that I'm not quite sure on which song, I only recognized Bob Geldof (and Peter Gabriel, at least I think I did?). If so; Bob Geldof and his band on track 9.

The album was produced by Rupert Hine. The cover says; "It is a "chain tape", each of the musicians adding a new theme to the mix as Kevins' team toured the world." This meaning that a song written by a man named Kevin Godley is the source here on this album to the creativity of various famous (and not so famous) artists around the world.

Here are some of the artists (the most famous);

Peter Gabriel, The Chieftains, Terence Trent D'Arby, David Gilmour, Bob Geldof, The Gipsy Kings, Howard Jones, Maria McKee, Lou Reed, Dave Stewart, Sting, Suzanne Vega and Steven Van Zandt...

...to mention a few as said.

It's not easy to seperate the artists here, but that being said; it only makes the album perhaps even more interesting not knowing what these various anf famous artists' contribution was on the project. The sound and the music surely can only be described as "World-music" in all its' varities and "colour". Some parts of "One World..." might be experienced as a bit boring at times, the one theme over and over again that is -but this is far more than just one team being repeated.

22 tracks, ca 55 minutes of music, produced and recorded in 1990 -a "charity release" where all profits go to fighting environmental destruction -the theme itself of the album.

Recommended!

1 out of 5 stars Trite Pop.......2004-03-10

Trite recording industry pop. The previous reviewer wrote something about imagining the best musicians in the countries contributing -- I might say, imagine the best-funded "musicians" doing another compilation in the name of politically correct world oneness. As far as world music aficianados, ....naw.

5 out of 5 stars Music is No Barriers.......2003-11-09

Imagine a simple melody, only 3 or 4 measures, 2/4, that you ask diferente musicians from diferent styles and culture around the world to play it in their own mood. From USA to India, crossing Africa, Latin America, Europe, Middle East, Asia, imagine the best musicians in their countries, playing THE only one music. I think every man of good will should listen it and watch the video (even more fantastic). The well known musicians refered by the others reviewers are only the top of this very deep and wonderful iceberg.

5 out of 5 stars Almost 10 years looking for this CD.......2002-07-14

I just found it ...!!! And it was truly worthy the effort.

Fantastic! I love it! To anybody who appreciates World Music, this is a must in my opinion.

It is a shame that the dream did not come true at all. Maybe because the dreamers of the 90's were defeated or the world changed for worse, I don't know.

But this was a record of our hope then. The last tracks are the best in my point of view. But I like it all, indeed.
