Customer Reviews:
It Is Not Enough To Own Just the Video.......2006-12-12
I have had the video (VHS) to this for years, so did not see the need to get the CD as well. That was until I found out that the CD is not exactly the same as the video (at least not the VHS version). The main differences are that the CD actually has the rendition of "The Ballad of William Bloat" and a longer musical introduction to "Hoedown." Perhaps it is not that big of a difference to most people, but to a Coulter "addict," it is another "fix." Unfortunately the CD does not have many of Phil's introductions to songs that are on the video.
Reply to "A music fan from Chicago, IL".......2002-01-01
I just wanted to let "music fan" and anyone else know that Phil Coulter's CD "The Songs I Love So Well" also has his vocal of "Scorn Not His Simplicity" -- by the way, his son has Down's Syndrome, not autism.
The (Songs I Love So Well) CD comes with a songbook, with lyrics and piano sheet music for every song that Phil Coulter has written, including "Home For Christmas", "Home from the Sea", "Take Me Home" and, of course, "The Town I Loved So Well" (do I detect a theme here?)
And in answer to another review's question: No, I don't think that Phil Coulter has ever done any CD that was not great!
New to Phil's Music.......2000-01-29
My wife purchased Phil Coulter's Live Experience as a gift for me. I already own Legends on which he performs with James Galway. But I was not expecting to find the video so moving. I had never heard The Old Man, or The Town I loved So Well. Even my children (ages 14, 12, and 6) have enjoyed it. I would have to say that Phil Coulter is one of the greatest song writers living today. The poem he reads from is also very stirring. The music he put together for the reading was perfect. I recommend this CD to anyone who likes the piano, whether or not you have an "ear" for Irish music. But be advised that if you purchase a recording of this concert whether it be on video or CD, you won't be the same person after you listen to it. It is an experience you won't forget.
One of my favorite albums.......2000-01-19
My parents brought this album back from a tour of Ireland. The tour guide played "The Town I Loved So Well" while they were making a short trip into Northern Ireland, and there wasn't a dry eye on the bus. Some of the tracks sound more like easy listening (a Henry Mancini medley, for example), but the rest of the songs and stories keep the 5th star.
Wow!.......1999-08-04
One question.... is there any Phil Coulter cd that isn't spectacular? And this cd is one of the best of a great bunch.
