Customer Reviews:
THE FABULOUS LUIZA POSSI, DAUGHTER OF THE DIVA........2006-04-03
Four Stars! Luiza Possi is a wonderful singer and a part of Brazilian popular music (MPB) royalty, being the daughter of Zizi Possi, the elegant Brazilian/Italian Diva. No doubt Luiza's gotten the full genetic DNA inheritance of her mother and she is blessed with a beautiful voice. She's a hit at concerts on (and off) the beaches of Rio; with "Tudo Que Ha De Bom" (Traveling Alone), the theme from the Brazilian Soap Opera "Senhora Do Destino" (Woman of Destiny); and with three wonderful CDs already on her musical resume. This is CD number two.
This CD captures her covering alot of vocal ground. Her youth naturally drives her towards hip-hop and rock, as in "Em Busca Da Felicidade" (In Search of Happiness), "Sair Da Casa" (~Leaving Home), the steamy "Ilegal, Imoral Ou Engorda" (Illegal, Immoral....)and a rocking "Aquelle Grandao", and those performances are very good. But her vocal DNA drives her towards mainstream MPB and that is where she is a marvelous revelation as a major star of the future, literally a "Senhora Do Musica Destino"-a woman of musical destiny. She can flat out sing in a rangy vocal manner that is her own, not an extention of her mother. Examples of this are the previously mentioned hit "Tudo Que Ha De Bom", the wonderful, multitracked "Imortais" (Immortal), and a huge performance of "Pequena Historia De Um Grande Amor" (Little History of a Great Love).
The "Piece De Resistance", however, is a highly personalized, soaring version of "(Somewhere) Over The Rainbow" sung in unaccented English with the voice fully exposed, and it's wonderful. This ability to sing in plain English is just like her mom's. And to sing this very familiar, but difficult song takes some daring, but it certainly was worth it. It is poignant and beautiful!! If this CD had been totally MBP, it may have gone for Five Stars. As it is, she has plenty of time to make up her musical mind, her future is bright!! Who knows, the rock songs may grow on me. Four Wonderful Stars!!
(Notes:
*This CD is listed as ten tracks, but it actually contains fourteen tracks, tracks 11-14 are: "Itinerrios", "Aquele Grando, "So Pra Te Dizer No", and "Over The Rainbow". Track 8 "Bali Hi" is not the "Bali Ha'i" from the musical "South Pacific'.
* See my review of her mom's CD, Zizi Possi: "Bossa", under Amazon.com's 'popular music' area, where she has an extensive presence.)
