Beautiful Music, a must-hear........2005-05-24
Bruni's sensual voice and the light melody of the guitar make these songs easy to listen to and quite enjoyable throughout, whether you parlez francais or not. Bruni gives the whole album a rather personal feel because her voice directs the songs, rather than having guitar, drums or bass. Each melody is beautiful, as the songs are well structured themselves, but the overall musical arrangement makes you want to whistle, hum, or even sing along.
One might compare her to Avril Lavigne, and the like, but their voices don't reach to what Bruni can achieve. Lavigne and the others seem to feel it's rather necessary to have a guitar pasted on top of their voice to achieve a good sounding song, but in reality, voice is king (or queen).
I highly recommend that you choose to listen to the previews on Amazon, download songs from iTunes, Napster, MusicMatch, or even buy the CD, because it's a decision you won't regret.
Catchy, hopeful, sweet.......2005-02-16
I encountered Carla Bruni pretty much by chance, because somebody happened to mention listening to the song "Quelqu'un M'a Dit" on the radio and he asked me to translate it since I speak French. I am so glad he asked this favor of me, because the song is now one of my favorites. It is incredibly beautiful in a mellow, hopeful, and loving way. Definitely a song I never mind having stuck in my head. After hearing that, I decided I wanted to hear more of Carla Bruni's work. While "Quelqu'un M'a Dit" is still probably my favorite song on the CD, I love the entire thing. There is some great variety. Some of the music is more upbeat. You can definitely enjoy the CD if you don't speak French (several of my friends are now addicted to her music even though they don't know what she's singing), but if you do speak French, it's an even better treat. I adore her lyrics. They are very catchy, meaningful, and clever. I highly recommend this CD!
Lovely Songs.............2004-11-23
I am grad I purchsed this album from Amazon weeks ago. Carla has s very sweet voice and those songs are lovely. It's too bad Amazon doesn't have much information about this set, it's a Korean limited edition, it has a EXTRA booklet translated in Korean, and a 10' by 13' beautiful POSTER! (not the same picture on the cover). Although I don't understand Korean, but the poster is worth it.
