Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars dance, spaceman, dance!!.......2001-09-22

this is one whacked-out, transcendent piece of electronic noodle. it's an amazing japanese take on disco, surf rock, robot music and rock & roll, filtered through Tron and then taken to outer space. you know how in sci-fi movies they always show wormholes as these long, amazing suction tubes where everything zips by the characters super-fast, and you think "wow! that looks pretty fun"? that's what listening to this album is like. zooming.

3 out of 5 stars Bis go to Japan!.......2001-02-07

If you like the Scottish punk-techno trio BIS, then you may or may not like Spoozys, depending on whether you want to hear a band that sounds rather just like Bis, or if you think one Bis is enough for this world.

Spoozys are short on Bis's social statements, but have thrown more digital chaos and surf guitars into the mix to compensate for their essential vapidity. Not to say that there's anything wrong with being vapid. The band is certainly energetic; the CD practically jumps out of the player and bounces around the room. The music also gets more interesting as it spins along, as if Spoozys start to tire of their Bis schtick, and decide to rely more on their musical chops for the album's later tracks. (The funk-noise instrumentals "A-I (Artificial Intelligence)" and "Super Discoman 2" are clear standouts.)

All the same, if somebody had told me that "Astral Astronauts" was Bis's follow-up to "Social Dancing" I might have believed them. So keep that in mind, fans and detractors of Bis, before ordering.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely incredible........2000-10-25

The Spoozys have created one of the greatest pop-techno albums that I have ever heard. A frenetic journey into the amazing. As cliched as it is, there IS something for everybody on this album if interested at all in the genre. And, if your only experience with the Spoozys is from a concert (as mine was), do not fear. Their comical antics translate well into audio, and the sound meshes into a crystal clear opus. Please give AA a chance, you WILL NOT regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Talk about zany........2000-10-06

Basically, if you're looking for a surf/spy, j-pop, D&B, poppy punky, devo-ish, ultra-fast, cyber-beach onslaught of tunes... definately look into getting Astral Astronauts.

5 out of 5 stars Welcome to the USA SPOOZYS! We salute you!.......2000-09-02

Hold on to your hotdogs America, the Spoozys have arrived! They come bearing the gift of great music! From the exotic shores of Japan comes a spastic fusion of crazy tunes. The closest thing that can compare to the Spoozys, would be Devo revamped by Cornelius then speed up ten BPMs. I couldn't reccomend any album as wholeheartly as Astral Astronauts. The disc takes off with track one and never slows down. Also the Spoozys are on tour In Sept. of 2000! So get off your ... and go see them! Check their record label, Jet Set, for local dates.

God bless the SPOOZYS!
