Customer Reviews:
A+ Flamenco.......2003-05-07
From the archives of Orfeon comes this no frills, let the music sell itself disc. Typical for many discs in their extensive catalogue, that features some of the best Latin music from a by gone era, is this set of twelve songs which is suberb. The flamenco is authentic, goose pimple type stuff which only can be felt from the wailing cries and rapid fire guitar of two virtuosos in their respective fields. Although Paco de Lucia is the more recognizeable name to novices of flamenco the buyer is in for a real treat as the featured E. Montoya is Enrique Montoya of a famous family of flamenco artists. Enrique Montoya's voice is actually the "main instrument" as his singing dominates the disc. Granted there are give and takes between him and Paco de Lucia, including nice solos but it is the voice of authentic Spanish flameco that makes this disc nop notch. Montoya sings in a voice that is very understandable to the Spanish speaker. His articualtion is easily understood and very melodic without sacrificing authenticity. His gut wrenching interpretations sing of toreros, women, cities, la luna, religion and in general, the culture of Spain. The counterpoint between guitar and voice is nothing short of breathtaking artistry that is only achieved in this most unique musical art form. Paco de Lucia is suttle, elegant and magnificent in his playing with Montoya. If you want to hear a brilliant collaboration by two giants than definitely buy this disc. Although an older recording the sound quality is pretty good but some songs are a little fuller than others. When it comes to good flamenco it doesn't get much better than this.
Flamenco Romantico.......2001-02-07
One of the most exciting flamenco records I have heard of lately. Very poetic, beautiful songs executed by Montoya. Lucia's music is magestic. Loved every second of it.
