An overlooked gem.......2005-06-30

Kassav has in recent years put out rather disappointing albums. The newer recordings simply lack the creativity of their mid-career triumphs of Vini Pou and Majestik Zouk, which offered dazzlingly intricate arrangements of instruments that fit like puzzle pieces, all taking twists and turns, each song actually two or three songs seamlessly combined. Then came the drought with lackluster albums like Tekit Izi and Nou La. Bleh.

In 1995, though, the band came out with Dife, which is every bit as clever and fun as the great recordings of the 80s, but somehow seems to have been overlooked. What a great recording this is! Rara and La Go are really inspired, and as good as anything Kassav has done.

Please, Kassav, more of the same!!
