Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Mestisay , a very important Canary Islands folk group.......2005-03-04

Mestisay is one of the most important folk groups in the Canary
Islands (Spain ). They mix Canary Islands folk music, South American styles of music, bolero, etc... but the Canary Islands folk music can be identified in all the songs.Mestisay is known in all the country.
"Aguita" have certain melodic turns that are part of the Canary Islands folk music , "Na Machamba" a duet with Joao Afonso have certain brazilian influences, "A donde voy " have a pop ballad feeling ( this theme is composed by Andres Molina , ex-member of "Taller Canario" ),"Pobre corazýn " have a certain caribean
flavour well performed by principal singer Olga Cerpa, one of the best spanish folk voices .
"Se va a salir " talks about the experiences of the inmigrants from the Canary Islands ."Atocha 53" talk about Madrid , with a certain carribean feeling again.
"Trovador de sueýos " is a ballad in tribute to Silvio Rodrýguez, the cuban songwriter."La historia de Julia " is a tribute to the foundation "Mýdicos del Mundo " , another song with south american and african influences.
"Niýa Candela " is a very beautiful song and was the great hit of this record . It was heard all over Spain. It's a song for a little girl.
"Aguardiente de caýa" is about a cuban citizen living in Spain .
"Le debo la vida al cielo " another song about Andrýs Molina/Juan Domingo Gil is about how we search for things we alredy had.Very sensitive song .
"Viento de la isla " is a mainly instrumental song in concept with some african influenced vocals .
Hope this helps.
I recomend their initial records and this one too.
