Boukman take their name from a slave leader who led the revolution against the French colonists which ended in 1804 with the former slaves victoriously forming the first Black republic in the world. Boukman Eksperyans spread their message throughout the world with their artful blend of traditional Haitian rhythms with rock, reggae, and Caribbean sounds.

The past few years Boukman Eksperyans have appeared on the popular African Fete tour, where I got to see them preform. The tour also included other giant international stars like Oumou Sangare, Femi Kuti, and Baba Maal.

All I can tell you folks is that this is the best band in the world. There could be no better representative of Haitian music than Boukman Eksperyans. The group is beloved by people all over the world not only for its musicality, but also for its political courage. Boukman has been at the heart of Haiti's stormy politics, creating songs that became rallying cries for Haitians and Africans.

Go pick this up, it's a MUST!

This is one amazing album. I have managed to find copies of all the Boukman Eksperyans studio albums, and while they are all great, this one is certainly at a higher level than the others. The songwriting, arrangments, performances and mixing in this album are top-class. The guitar playing in particular sounds much better (in my opinion) than their later albums.

Look guys, Iým Brazilian and I could not understand a word of what they sing (except when I read the English version of the songs on the CD cover) but, the CD is wonderful. Every song is so strong, they get to your heart even if you donýt understand the words. You really donýt have to speak the Creole language to love songs like "Bay Bondye Glwa", "Zanset Nou Yo", and "Nwel Inosan". Buy one for you and one for your best fried.

Boukman Eksperyans VODOU ADJAE, their critically hailed 1991 international debut was the sign that Haitain music had exploded like a grenade. The title on here their follow up says it all, KALFOU DANJERE (DANGEROUS CROSSROADS). It always amazes me how smoothly the transitions occur between songs that have different themes, tempos, and sentiments (A.K.A great artist which Boukman Eksperyans are). The instruments here range from bongos, drums, flutes to rock guitars and all are interwoven to paint pictures of desperation, pain, poverty, racism, war, disbelief, confusion, outrage, friendship, spiritually, love and unity. Boukman Eksperyans sings to change the thinking of others. Their hard-edged political lyrics, backed with sometime chaotic beats (example: the title track "Kalfou Dangare") are hard enough to crush concrete. This album, correction, this group work is a must, no need to understand the language, the message is driven perfectly clear.
