Customer Reviews:
It's like eavesdropping on angels.......2005-02-25
I feel so fortunate to have found this disc. Dolores Keane has a hearty voice that is the perfect foundation for the sweet angelic voice of Rita Eriksen. I simply can't get enough. This is a marvelous gift for friends you really love, so don't get just one.
Let me be there next time...........2003-08-24
Well, I can say Dolores Keane is not your average tune carried in a bucket ingenue sent over from the modeling agency, no. I hate, though, to go on about how some CD is so authentic sounding, seeing as how I'm not sitting in a village in Ireland or Norway hearing Eriksen and Keane respectively, which would be authentic, but still Tideland is nice and "modern authentic." I'd never heard of either singer before, nor any of the accompanying musicians, but it comes together very well. I'm coming off a deep affair with Noside.com's mod Scandi-folk, so this didn't have the same sort of Viking ghost bite. Eriksen is a modern voice, emulating possibly American country singing. Amazing is how lovely the fiddling, as well as other instruments, of Ireland and Norway mesh and complement. I usually hate "the attack of the afro-celtic whales," but this is tasteful and gimmick-free.
Haunting Vocals of Ireland and Norway.......2002-02-26
I fell in love with this CD the moment I heard Moorlough Shore (#2). Dolores Keane's evocative and haunting alto voice is a rare treat. Rita Eriksen's talents, which make up the Norweigan half of this CD, are nothing to sneeze at either. The band which accompanies these two remarkable women complements them nicely. Fiddle, Uilleann pipes, bouzouki, guitar, electric citar, are just some of the various instruments used. Ultimately, this is a collection of poignant, haunting ballads. The songs alternate between Norweigan and Irish, several of them in the traditional languages of those countries. This is not a lively album overall, the songs are slow and beautiful, interweaving with the instruments. For anyone who appreciates the vocal ballads of either Ireland or Norway this is a must. Easy to listen to and wonderful to discover.
