Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great consistent music.......2000-10-07

I was introduced to Alain Souchon when a friend gave me the song _Rive Gauche_. This song grew on me after listening to it a few times. I searched and discovered that this song was on his _Au Ras Des Paquerettes_ CD from last year. I listened to some samples on Alapage, songs from ARDP and songs from _C'est Deja Ca_ (his previous CD from 1993). I'm not sure why but I decided to buy CDC instead of ARDP, but I wasn't disappointed at all. I loved this CD from the start. The quality is consistent throughout the entire CD, and I like most of the songs. The one song that I'm not really crazy about is (#6) _Arlette Laquiller_, but it is a favorite with most people. (#1) _Foule Sentimentale_ has a catchy tune that makes me want to sing along. And there is some truth to the lyrics. This is one of my favorite songs on the CD. BTW, lyrics are included in the CD. My second favorite song is (#9) _Le Fil_, followed by (#10) _Le Zebre_, (#8) _Sans Queue Ni Tete_, (#11) _C'est Deja Ca_, and (#4) _Les Regrets_.

Many of these songs can also be found on his live CD from 1995, _Defoule Sentimentale_ which is a 2-CD set containing 29 songs. This would make a good second Alain Souchon CD after _C'est Deja Ca_ since it will contain songs you already know and like, and it will also introduce you to many of his other great songs!

5 out of 5 stars Absolument Super!.......1999-04-11

You do not need to know French to enjoy Souchon's music. If you understand French, though, you will find his lyric sometimes touching, sometimes quirky but always well integrated with his snappy melodies. His "Foule sentimentale" is a critique of a society over concerned with consumerism; "Les regrets," the poignant review of life's lost opportunities; and "C'est dýjý ýa" an evocative tribute to his African roots. These are my favorites, but the whole CD is superbe.
