Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great cross-section of Caz favorites, presented live........2005-04-18

The Cazimero Brothers, with a career spanning thirty years and three dozen Hawaiian albums, are at their best in this compilation of "live" songs (though this is not an album recorded "live" at a single concert). Recorded separately at a number of different Honolulu concerts during 1992 - 1993, these songs represent a tremendous variety of styles, including the soft, slow, romantic ballad, "Mu'olaulani," and the gorgeous harmonies of "Adios Kealoha" and "Ku'uipo I Ka He'e Pu'e One."

Haunting rhythms keep the toes tapping in "Mapuna Ka Hala O Kailua," and the brothers' reverence for the islands and its culture, reflected throughout the concert, is especially memorable in "This is Our Island," with its almost chantlike rhythms. "Green Rose Hula," an upbeat and fun-loving song, is so lively it's easy to imagine Robert Cazimero, the director of a major hula halau, suddenly abandoning his guitar and dancing the hula.

With voices which alternate between high falsetto and deep baritone, the Cazimeros set the beat and harmony with their own rhythm guitar and 12-string guitar. Backup performers add slack key guitar and percussion to the mix, as the Cazimeros give fresh interpretations to traditional Hawaiian songs. Because of their consummate musical sense and creativity, obvious here, the Brothers were nominated in early 2005 for the first Grammy Award ever awarded for Hawaiian Music. The Cazimeros are among the best and most popular of Hawaii's recording artists, and this album is the next best thing to seeing them "live." Mary Whipple
