Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars second review.......2003-02-08

My earlier review remarked that the trouble with this cd is that it contains 14 tracks whereas the one originally released in Brasil contains 49 tracks on two cds. That was released under the title Maricotinha ao vivo. It is available from Amazon as Ao vivo. This is such a fine bunch of performances that anyone really interested should purchase Ao vivo.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent but minimum.......2003-02-08

This is one of her finest compilations. Unfortunately the album exported to the US contains only fourteen tracks, while the one released in Brasil contains 49 tracks (some of it poetry and other readings) on two cds. Try to find someone who has the Brasilian edition.

5 out of 5 stars The smartest singer of Brazilian popular music.......2002-07-10

What do you do to celebrate your 35th year as superstar and consumated singer? You record a disc that eloquently showcases your unmatched vocal abilities singing the compositions of people who have written songs for you along your career. But if you are smart enough to want to lure new fans, you record songs penned by younger songwriters too. This is exactly what Maria Bethania did in 2001 upon recording Maricotinha. She gathered works by Gilberto Gil(Se eu morrese de saudade),Vinicius de Moraes/Carlos lyra(Primavera),and A Moca do Sonho(Chico Buarque/Edu lobo) along with tunes written by new talents such as Chico Cesar(Dona do dom),Depois de ter voce by Adriana Calcanhotto and Nem a lua,nem o sol,nem eu written by Lenine.Bethania takes us through tales of unrequited love, longing
and spiritual self examination. In it,we found the fiftysomething year old singer wins again. She wins again by presenting one of her most consistent discs in years, one that bears a nickname for Maria yet reveals the essence of the Bethania we know:passionate, devoted yet smart and in control.
