2 out of 5 stars A Dissapointing collection of remixes.......2006-02-11

I am a World Music DJ who specializes in African Dance Music, and I love Brenda Fassie- especially the last 5 or so albums she released before her untimely death. When she died last year, I compiled my own compilation of her best songs (in my opinion) entitled "Ascension to Ectasy". These songs are soulful, polished, and really get a dancefloor going! In stark contrast this CD of remixes has really taken the soul out of her music and intellectualized it into a series of Westernized abstractions. To make matters worse, these so-called house DJ's have released a CD of remixes that is almost impossible to DANCE to!!! (which seems to me to be the biggest flaw here).I reccommend instead of purchasing this to make a REAL DANCE compilation of Brenda's greatest songs! As a guide, Here is the songlist of the compilation I made "Ascension to Ectasy" which begins with her Africa-wide (and to a lesser extent world-wide) hit Vuli Ndela. From there I move on to lesser known songs that nevertheless are real shakers on the dancefloor.
So, here is what a Best of Brenda collection SHOULD look like...
(Song titles follow, with name of album in parentheses)

1. Vuli Ndela (Memeza)
2. Duma Duma (Myekeleni)
3. Ngik' Tholile (Mina
4. Baxakekile Oxam' (Myekeleni)
5. Kesiyile Bana Baka (Myekeleni)
6. Lekwaito (Mina Nawe)
7. Monate (Amadlozi)
8. Sgubu se Zion (Myekeleni)
9. Mpundulu (Nomakanjani?)
10. Akushesh' Akusheshe (Paparazzi)
11. Thola Amadlozi (Amadlozi)
12. Nomakanjani? (Nomakanjani?)
13. Ngohlala Ngi Nje (Mina Nawe)
14. Mama, I'm Sorry (Myekeleni)

-Nuff Said.
