Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars European Folk Artistry with a Flare!.......2000-08-10

Although Bratsch is new to the United States, Rien Dans Les Poches marks their twentieth anniversary as one of the finest folk bands of Europe. The band's intense artistry, combined with their continual exploration of new folk styles should make Bratsch a part of any audiophiles collection. Bratsch is a five piece accoustic band that weaves its way through entrancing rhythms, soaring melodies, and vigorous tempi as a tight and well oiled ensemble.

"Rien Dans les Poches" explores Gypsy music of Eastern Europe. The opening song, "Neda", is another skillfully crafted tune by the band's awesome accordianist, Francois Castiello. Joining the band for this album are several of Eastern Europe's finest musicians including Budapest's Ando Drom on a unique version of Les Paul's "Johnny". Lending a Mid-Eastern flavor to the album are the unique vocals of Monika "Mitsou" Juhasz Miczura.

This reviewer couldn't find one song on the album that dissapointed. From the title track written by Bratsch's frenetic violinist to the traditional "Choubi" performed with Bratch's unique flare, Rein Dans Les Poches is Gypsy music at it's finest. I only hope that more of their albums are picked up here in the U.S. and that the band itself will consider a tour of America so that we can enjoy them in person.
