Customer Reviews:
I am very disappointed.......2006-12-13
This is a collection of fine old German songs, cut in mid-verse sometimes like someone would switch stations on a push-button radio. I've heard all the song as a young man stationed in Germany during the cold war, and bring back memories. I wish the package was more honestly represented.
A Mixed Bag.......2006-11-01
This is a two CD set of German drinking and merrymaking music that comes in an attractive cardboard sleeve. Both CD's feature a mixed chorus ably accompanied by a traditional German oom-pah band. The main difference between the two CD's is the presence in disc 1 of partygoers who applaud, cheer, and make all manner of extraneous noise. To me, that spoiled the presentation. It sounded too much like a drunken bar scene. Disc 2, on the other hand, would make really great background music for any German theme party, including Oktoberfest. In my opinion, this set is worth buying just for disc 2.
Songs indicated are not the same songs on the CD........2006-08-24
While some of the songs are great, the CD does not contain several of the songs listed which include some of the reasons I purchased this CD. I am surprised that there is not a quality check prior to offering the CD for sale.
Not what it's supposed to be!.......2005-07-21
Yup, the first cd is not what is listed on the website, which is too bad, because some of those songs are great. Especially Schone Maid and Amboss Polka, they rock. I'm keeping the cd because they were gonna charge me for the shipping, so the heck with it. I now have some more background music for working in my shop or at my own little bier fests!
Very nice CDs if you know what you're getting.......2004-02-10
This is definitely a festive CD set. It was recorded live, and the people are having a good time. You really feel like you're at a festival or in a beer hall. Unfortunately for about the first ten (of 43) songs, you also get the feeling that you are seated in front of the tuba player and beside a man who shows his enthusiasm with piercing whistles. In the distance you can faintly hear the audience singing along. (Luckily, you find a better seat later.)
Amazon's website does not accurately show the names of the songs on Disc 1. They are completely different songs. (An earlier reviewer said that Disc 2 was also mislabeled, but they must have corrected that. Also, the sample music that you can play here is from Disc 2, not Disc 1.) In one sense, the names of the songs don't really matter on the first disc, because you can't hear the words for the first two-thirds of the CD, and the band blends most of the songs together so you catch a familiar melody here and there, and then they switch, and then repeat something from a few minutes earlier. Toward the end of Disc 1 it gets better and you can hear the words.
Disc 2 is much better. You can hear all of the the instruments instead of just the tuba, and the singing is much stronger--as if it's being sung from the stage with the audience participation instead of just the audience. I really got the feeling that I was back in Germany singing along with my grandparents at a local "volksfest." You'll want the beer, bratwurst and pretzels to go along with this CD!
