Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Ignore the last reviewers comments...this is for EVERYONE........2007-01-09

I cannot believe someone would say that people who do not know the Balkans intimately do not deserve to understand this music.

This is some of THE most moving music I have ever heard, and as a musician I have heard a great variety.

Anyone with a heart and a soul will instantly love this music...the marriage of the many cultures it represents is magical. And the performances are top-notch.

Bregovic is truly an icon and has inspired me to study the history and the language of the Balkans. I am intensely enchanted.

5 out of 5 stars only for those who KNOW Balkans.......2006-09-12

Ok. Here's the deal, if you're a person who has not been exposed to Balkan music before, does not even know what Balkans is, should most certainly not buy this cd. Not because you might not like it, but simply cannot appreciate the privilege to indulge in such beauty. I noticed some of the people complaining about this kind of music saying that they cannot simply understand where the beauty is...THAT'S JUST IT! You cannot and do not deserve to understand it! You have to know certain things about Balkan area and be somehow related to it to fully appreciate it's magic. For anyone that does not fill this criteria: No one expects you to like it so just save your money and time and spend it on something more "valuable".

3 out of 5 stars Ederlezi.......2004-07-22

Having seen almost all of Emir Kusturica's films, I am an ardent admirer of the master's portrayals of Balkan vignettes, especially those dealing with the Roma (Time of the Gypsies, Black Cat, White Cat). The musical scores of Bregovic took on a life of their own for me, haunting compositions which evoke the sorcery and fire of the gypsies. So I was truly excited to have the Ederlezi album, which does indeed feature the ineffably intoxicating brass band rhythms and the almost painfully gorgeous strains of the Ederlezi song. However, the Ausencia song, the American Dreams items and other non-Roma or non-Serbian tracks do not fit in. I wait for them to go by or tune in to the Balkan portions. I love the Slavic-Roma Bregovic, but my Ukrainian soul does not warm as much to the rest.

4 out of 5 stars Goran's best pieces.......2003-09-10

an interesting compilation of his film music.there are tracks from all of his albums straight to famous "Underground".
"Ederlezi" takes you on a journey through balkans ("Mesicina"),dark 15 century cities ("Ederlezi"),the meditareann culture ("Elo hi") and straight modern places ("Tv screen").Still the best tracks from here are these from "Arizona dream" - one his most complex and exciting works.
it is a great compilation of this artist - it ends just in hte time that he started to colaborate with many pop artists (Kayah,Kris krawczyk) which wansn't magical at all.

2 out of 5 stars unexciting music.......2003-08-30

I got this along with Bregovic's Silence of the Balkans and Czas Cyganow. All three of them are uninteresting, and uninspiring to me, much less energizing as some reviewers mentioned. I was so influenced by reviewer enthusiasm, I unwisely bought all three simultaneously. Big mistake! No more Bregovic for me! How anyone can get much Balkans out of his music is baffling to me.
