Customer Reviews:
Killer 7.......2005-09-25
If you're even browsing the soundtrack, you know the whole backstory of Killer 7. You know of it's visual style, how it's either hailed as an art-house masterpiece of a pretentious, pseudo-philosophical piece of trash. I hail the game, and certain songs in the game, in the former category. Killer 7 definitely has a few tunes which make the double CD soundtrack a must for some people.
However, I'm not one of them. I primarily bought the OST because I was particularly taken with the song played while exploring Curtis Blackburn's house. while the song is excellent not only in a game soundtrack, but as a song, period, several of the others aren't so hot. The soundtrack has no cohesion. Whereas other OSTs have an overall tone or mood or have songs arranged in such a way that their transitions are seamless, each song in the Killer 7 soundtrack is too different from the last. For as many great songs on the two albums, there are as many -if not more- horrible songs. If you feel the songs that you enjoyed in the game are worth buying both CDs, then this is the soundtrack for you.
However, if you're only taken with a few, key songs in the game, you're probably better off just playing the levels in which the song is played and saving your money on a different soundtrack that's excellent through and through.
An extremely listenable and enjoyable video game score..........2005-08-21
After the recent scandals in the video game industry I wanted to pick up Killer 7 for GameCube before the ESRB slapped an AO rating on that game too. After playing it for the past week, I've fallen in love with it. It's different, yes. It's crazy at times, yes. It's even a bit gross at times. But one thing about the game that intrigued me was the variety of music and how each individual song set the mood for each part of the game.
I don't listen to a lot of video game music. I tend to buy soundtracks like Grand Theft Auto or SSX because they are great compilations of existing music, but I never listen to actual game music...until now.
This soundtrack reminds me of the Fight Club album in the way that the music is eerie yet ALMOST danceable. I find myself nodding my head to most of the songs on this CD. Of course, some of the songs are more ambient (much like some of Fight Club's songs) and some are just bone-chilling (Multiple Personality is the song that plays in Harman's room. Freaks me out every time...)
61 tracks on 2 CDs, and most of the songs are not little 30-second songs. Some of the songs are around 4-5 minutes long each. "Rave On", a eurodance song that plays before entering the colliseum, is insanely catchy but doesn't end immediately, which is great. The songs on this video game soundtrack actually feel like songs.
I can't really recommend this album to people who haven't played the game. I would recommend playing it first before purchasing the soundtrack, which can be hard to obtain in the first place. If you like this music, you'll definately like Fight Club's soundtrack.
