This is a moving and uplifting CD for anyone who loves gospel and/or South African music. Definetely worth it for the avid lover of world music.
Showcasing one of the finest singing groups in the world.......2002-11-07
South African Choral: Songs Of The Alexandra Youth Choir is a masterfully recorded CD showcasing one of the finest singing groups in the world. Listeners will find themselves caught up in the unusual rhythms, truly beautiful voices, and wonderfully melodic songs showcasing the African singing of a choir (created in 1988) comprised of children of all ages who sing in a multitude of South African languages including Zulu, Sotho, Xhosa, and English. Twenty different and memorable pieces comprise this outstanding collection which is enthusiastically and confidently recommended for personal and community library multicultural music collections.
Five stars if you like the style..........2002-09-05
I've never been a huge fan of South African choral music, but I have to admit that this group, recorded early in 2002, with some rhythm players added to the mix, has a pretty creative approach to the style. Their songs are original and complex, with dynamic arrangements and swooping vocal interplays... It's a nice new twist on a genre that had gotten kind of static over the years. Worth checking out, particularly if you were already a fan of this sound.
