This is easily one of the best brazilian/dub/ambient/sambatronic CDs you will EVER buy and probably the best ever.

WOW!!!.......2004-06-19

This is one of those rare CD's that can just be left in your CD player. Out of the many Acid Jazz/Chill Out albums I have, this is clearly the best. My favorite track is #3; a beautifully crafted track that is, for lack of a better word, perfect. Don't miss out on this one!

Great Franchise!.......2004-06-08

Bossa Mundo - I think this is the first real US release of this franchise. Based on Yellow label, the first one that came out was "Bossa Tres... Jazz when Japan meets Europe" was the bigger release, which featured different renditions of a couple tracks and two discs of cuts. This one is a single disc of some of the best cuts and some alternative takes.

I dug this one. I honestly picked it up about a month or so before Bossa Tres... Jazz. What pushed me to get it was Tom & Joyce's "Vai Minha Tristeza". I'd heard the track earlier on ESL's "Jet Society" and dug it. The one featured here is a remix - done by Francois K & Eric Krupper but it has a really cool house like vibe to it. Nice beat, smooth rythm. But the beginning of this cd is also awesome - you can't go wrong with Calm's jazzy and beaty cut "People From the Sun and the Earth" and Little Big Bee's "Searchin", remixed by Atjazz has become somewhat of a nu-jazz/nu-bossa classic. You can even check it out on Brazilectro II. Such a mature sound, nice guitar, great electronic accents. Down the line you have Compost masters Kyoto Jazz Massive and jazzanova with some neat tunes - the ratatat of Kyoto's sound and the pinpoint production of Jazzanova's greate. And of course, Salome De Bahia. She remade a Stevie Wonder cut here and her voice, so powerful! While the song isn't my favorite, her voice is something special.

The verdict? I definitely recommend this. The timing of this one is a bit old now - it came out in 1999. And you want to be careful of overlap. Bossa Tres... Jazz was IMO the better release. Neat interludes, more songs and two discs and also released in 1999. But this is solid and will probably run you cheaper than that one. Also, there is a Bossa Mundo remix album that does cuts off of this and Bossa Tres... Jazz. And finally, there was another release: "Bossa Tres... Jazz - Step into the Gallery" that was released in the US as "Bossa Mundo II". It's quite good, similar sound with new artists. If you dig these - check out Glucklich III. If you dig Bossa Mundo II - definitely check out Glucklich V. And of course, take a look at ESL's Jet Society if this sound is for you, along with Faze Action's "Pure Braziliance" and Brazilectro II.

What if God made a compilation?!!.......2003-09-15

If God took time off from her busy schedule to make a compilation of modern Brazilian music, I think it would sound something like this. This CD flows so perfectly that it must have been divinely inspired! A perfect mix between uptempo and chill tracks, vocal and instrumental. Just when a song starts to settle into something predictable, some amazing sounds (usually percussion) are introduced to lift the song to the next level. ...

What a wonderful discovery.......2002-06-14

A friend of mine lent this album to me today, and I was so impressed by it that I wanted to share with everyone how incredible this CD is. This CD isn't mixed, there's a disclaimer on the back that all the tracks have been "edited" except for one, and the longest track is only six minutes long, but this CD still plays gorgeously. You can tell that each track is special just from the first few seconds. There's a wide range of percussion-based tracks on this CD, some a little more on the minimalistic side, and some that border on full-blown disco. Some songs calm you, some songs can't help but make you get out of your chair and dance. The FK & Eric Kupper mix of Tom & Joyce's classic "Vai Minha Tristeza" is an absolutely *perfect* song. The vocals are clean and inviting, and the disco funk acid jazz overtones just push it over the top. Equally as energetic and groovy is the MAW mix of Yasushi Ide's "Plein Soleil". This song is infectious in ways you can't even understand until you hear its carefully crafted music and sweet vocals blend into a sound that's as close to bliss as you can get. Kyoto Jazz Massive's "Nacer Do Sol" makes me long to chill on the beach watching a perfect sunset. All of the other tracks on the album are excellent, too, and my only complaint is that I wish a lot of these songs were longer... they come to an end just when you feel like you could get lost in them forever. For anyone big on percussion, world house, or just looking for something different from the flood of boring mix CDs on the market, I think you'll find a hidden gem here that strikes the right chord with you.
