4 out of 5 stars pt1 Revival pt2 Reconnection.......2006-04-24

For new comers this album could be an awakening in many musical aspects, but for the loyal supporters you may feel teased. The album is beautiful but you will crave more and feel there is more. When a great musician performs you always feel that it can't be topped, so when the next album comes it baffles you that they actually topped the previous one. This album feels like there's a part two. Ex."Reconnection".

5 out of 5 stars Hugh Masekela Revival.......2005-08-05

I been digging Hugh Masekela for a while now. All of his older classic albums; I'm Not Afraid, Boys Doin It, Coloniel Man, etc. When I read an article in a recent Downbeat issue that Hugh Masekela was recording a new album called Revival, I got goose bumps.

I've seen new Masekela albums a lot. But this one seemed special. With many artists, after they record a certain way in the past, when they make new albums after their fame has dwindled, the style in which the records they make changes. Not with this man.

I swore I was hearing a brand new 1970's Hugh Masekela album when I first heard this! Everything Hugh used to do back then is hear on this cd. The african influences, him singing, the somewhat funk back beat, the great flugel horn playing. It's just more up to date. This is awesome! This album is proof that Hugh Masekela is still going strong!
