Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars For everyone who loves good music!.......2004-05-05

Clannad is a genuine Irish band, well known for their haunting music that is a mix of traditional Irish and modern pop and jazz styles. (As a footnote, the popular singer Enya got her start with Clannad!) The music itself is hard to categorize - would you like to call it New Age, or Easy Listening? Well, it's sort of both, and really neither. This is great music, relaxing and thoughtful, almost religious in tone.

I love this album, and enjoy playing it just about all the time. I highly recommend it to everyone who loves good music!

5 out of 5 stars landmarks Clannad.......2003-08-01

Great irish music, very relaxing. I recommend this cd to others.

5 out of 5 stars A pleasure to behold...........2002-06-06

One of my favorite albums. Wonderful, emotional blend of voices and instruments. I continue to be impressed by Clannad's exceptional, diversified musical talents: keyboards, string instruments, wind instruments - all employed with a gifted understanding of balance. The tracks complement each other, as they blend perfectly from one to the next. This album would make a friend of Clannad to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Smooth as silk.......2002-04-09

Clannad has their style, a mix of Celtic pop polished to a fine jewel. After the brilliant LORE I was at first a wee tad disappointed with the more gentle LANDMARKS. But this one gets better with repeat listening. I especially loved OF THIS LAND.

Clannad is magick!!

2 out of 5 stars Celt-evator music.......2001-11-07

Sometimes, recommendations just don't hold up. Such was my experience with this CD. Having very much enjoyed the work of Enya, Secret Garden and (especially) Loreena McKennitt, _Landmarks_ seemed destined for a place of honor in my CD rack. Unfortunately, despite multiple listenings, I have to depart from the very favorable reviews here, give it a begrudging 2 stars, and hope that it re-sells quickly as a used CD.

The general flaw in these _Landmarks_ is their generally thin, saccharine quality. If anything, these "relaxing" songs are _too_ soft and high-pitched. In the background on most tracks, pipes quiver tremulously with a cloying, not gentle, effect. Even the few tracks that do show signs of life, such as "A Mhuirnin O", are likewise sugar-coated with airy techo-jazz; and "The Golden Ball" (easily the worst track here) is, at best, suitable for recomposition as elevator music in a Dublin highrise.

The "New Age" must have more depth and passion than this if it intends to endure. I definitely cannot recommend this CD.
