Customer Reviews:
A Must-Have for Piazzolla Fans.......2003-12-13
These songs and these arrangements have been released previously in the US on an ANS Astor Piazzolla Masterpieces album called "Otono Porteno", but it is currently unavailable. So if you are a fan on any level of AP, but do not have the ANS release, here is a second chance to obtain some of the most profound and astounding music of the 20th century.
The songs found on this CD are in the same order as on the original album issued in Argentina way back in 1969. On it are a tasty new version of Adios Nonino; Otono Porteno, which is the third (autumn) in his seasons of Buenos Aires series; the fabulous three-note Michelangelo 70;Coral Tangata; a technically brilliant Fogata; and a duo of tunes that blows me away every time I listen to them: the sublime Soledad and the stirring Final on which Piazzolla shows us how a variation on a theme should be done.
Adios Nonino is a must-have for Piazzolla fans, and should be obtained along with a copy of the recently released Pulsacion, which contains that jazzy four-part work, and the rest of the music once available on the ANS disc. Without this CD (and Pulsacion), there is a gaping hole in your Piazzolla collection.
A Classic !!!!!.......2003-07-23

Finally, this 1969 masterpiece is released in the US as it was conceived by Astor Piazzolla. Considered by many as Astor's best record ever, it contains possibly the best version of his classic "Adios Nonino", along with other outstanding pieces. Do not look at it as a tango record, because it is not, it is not a classical album either, this is vintage Piazzolla; some of his best compositions, performed with his quintet in top form. An absolute must have, a major portion of the soundtrack for the 20th century. In a poll ... this was rated as 'best ever' by hundreds of Piazzolla fans all over the world. They cannot be wrong. If you have never heard of Piazzolla, get this record, I promise you will not be able to get the music out of your head for a long time. If you know Piazzolla and do not own this record yet...go ahead and buy it!
