5 out of 5 stars "All Night Passion" w/ ALISHA.......2005-01-11

I first heard of Alisha on a mix tape(and yes we called them mixed tapes back then, ha,ha). I went out and bought her 12" of "All Night Passion" three years after it's release(1986). To this day, I'm still listening to that same ole 12" on my Spirit of St. Louis stereo and it still sounds great. I've taken care of all of my records. I wish Vanguard/Tarbox records if they still exist should put Alisha's 12" remixes on C.d.'s(I hope one of you guys sees this and realize there's a demand);or better yet Alisha sees this and decides to go on a tour.
I bought this album on cassette tape around 1989 because I couldn't find it on c.d. I regret loaning out the tape to someone and never got it back 'round 1992-$%#*! Anyway, Alisha had a variation in tone of voice and singing style than that of Madonna, Stacey Q or even that of Regina. All of these girls possessed their own unique sound and style. Their songs that made them a household name(ahh, in this case a "clubhouse" name), seemed to be tailored made for them.
Alisha followed this up with "Bounce Back" in 1990. I saw it on display at the Coconuts store where I bought all of my 12" records. I decided to purchase it because I liked "All Night" so much even though I haven't heard "Bounce" and was pleasantly surprised by it's catchiness. A few months down the line a couple of Chicago's local top 40 stations was playing "Bounce". I wish they would've played at least "All Night Passion" or "Baby Talk" since "Bounce" became a moderate hit on the radio. However, there was several college/independent radio stations that played "underground" or club hits, so I listened to them. I hated the fact that in order for a song to receive attention it has to hit the top 100 chart and by the time it hits the top 40 it's old and "played" out! Then the radio stations decide to play it when everyone is so sick of the song. And it's still happening today! So what I'm Trying to say without sounding to redundant, is that a great club song stays at the club level and never gets radio airplay because the numbers aren't there- chartwise that is.
I recommend this and support all of your club/dance artist.
Peace, Julius-Allan

4 out of 5 stars Alisha's first effort... Great club record!.......2003-10-23

I love Alisha! I'm a really big fan of hers, and I just recently got all of her CDs (including this one!) and it's such a shame that she wasn't more successful. She was successful enough to launch major record deals after this Vanguard release (thanks to producer/engineer Mark Berry), but I don't think she ever got the promotion she deserved! Here's a track by track review of "ALISHA"

"All Night Passion" - This is a good single. It's very dancey and 80s club friendly. I REALLY love Alisha's voice on this song because her vocal runs are great! Her voice really flys on this song!

"Stargazing" - One of my personal favorites. Good poppy, dance song. I love the chorus : "While I'm waiting I'll be stargazing / On a lonely night / So lonely / Wish you were holding me tight" It's got a great melody to it and the lyrics are cool.

"Baby Talk" - LOVE this one! It hit #1 on the Dance charts for a reason! Classic Alisha song. Great club song! Still awesome to listen to today! I know alot of people who compare this track to a Madonna-style track. So if you like Madonna's 80s song, you'll love this one!

"Too Turned On" - MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE! Awesome awesome song! Alisha's vocals are a little rougher on this song, and I think it's a great song for her voice! Shows good vocal power on this song too! I love how her voice sounds on the key change (in the last sung chorus).

"Boys Will Be Boys" - Cute little song. Not really clubby, just kind of a obscure album-cut. It's a bit older sounding. The chorus is catchy!

"One Little Lie" - This is a good, mellower song from Alisha. I don't think the album would have been complete without it. This song was originally sung by Kirsty MacColl :)

OVERALL : Pretty good. My only complaints (yes I know this has been said about 5 times now LOL but yes) this is a low transfer to CD. You really do have to crank it to listen to the song at a loud level (WARNING!! If you're playing this in your car loudly and you're switching back to radio TURN THE VOLUME DOWN or you will get a really LOUD suprise!! LOL) But it's not really that bothersome in the listening of it. I also wish this wasn't DANCE MIXES. I wish they were single edits, because alot of the time I find myself fast-forwarding through many bars/solos of music and no words and the really long intros. Only BOYS WILL BE BOYS and ONE LITTLE LIE are normal mixes. The rest are extended. Her voice is good on this album, but her later stuff definitely shows maturity in her voice. But I definitely recommend this CD! Look at Alisha's other titles : "Nightwalkin'" (1987 RCA Records) and "Bounce Back" (1990 MCA Records). Also the singles "Wherever The Rhythm Takes Me" (1996 Critique Records) and "You Wanna Be A Star (Superstar)" (1999 Jellybean Records)
