Customer Reviews:
Mastery of the fado.......2006-04-30
Having just recently bought Madredeus's latest release after attending the Um Amor Infinito world tour, it is my opinion that this is one of their best albums in years. I found Movimento rather disappointing, was pleasantly surprised by Faluas do Tejo, and was left reeling after hearing the songs from this last CD live. The fado (traditional Portuguese music) is evocative of sadness, longing, beauty and the peace of rural life, and no one can perform it like Madredeus. Teresa Salgueiro's voice in Um Amor Infinito is wonderful as always and there are many sweet and melodic songs that I find myself trying to whistle afterwards (though it is, of course, impossible). If you don't know Madredeus and don't know which CD to buy, go for Ainda (music from Lisbon Story) and, if you like that one, buy Um Amor... It has become my personal favorite and it won't disappoint.
interesting, but singer has problems.......2006-01-19
This album would be very nice, and is in places, but the singer has a bad tendency to sing flat. To some people, like me, this is very distracting. What is really weird is they fix this stuff "in the mix" all the time.
Too bad.
Copy Controlled.......2004-12-11
It is not mentioned here, but this disc is copy controlled.
--- On some equipment, for example car CD players playback
--- problems may be encountered.
I have not listened it yet. The 3 stars are not the FA.
Portuguese, not Spanish.......2004-09-30
Just to complete the previous comment:
Madredeus are Portuguese, and obviously the songs are not in Spanish. That Portuguese sounds like Japanese is also new to me. I understand Portuguese, but I don't understand a word of Japanese.
Perhaps Portuguese similar to Japanese means that for somebody who doesn't understand both (or better, all three if we include Spanish) it sounds exotic.
The song "Moro em Lisboa" should at least have given a hint, assuming that ... we have an idea, where that is.
A suggestion for who likes this album:
Wim Wenders "Lisbon Story" is a really nice movie about Lisbon (cheating off the terrific traffic in Lisbon). Madredeus appear in the movie and sing a few songs (The soundtrack was their album "Ainda").
I love this and am a metalhead? What?.......2004-09-15
So yeah, this is just about one of the greatest CDs ever, but not quite. In its genre, it's sooo incredibly amazing. You seriously have to buy this if you are even interested in this type of thing. It's basically Spanish acoustic-type stuff with a Spanish female vocalist that almost sounds Japanese. Very relaxing stuff. My favorite song happens to be the only one without singing ("O Olival A Passo, A Trote E A Galope"), despite the fact that I love this chick's addictive hard pronunciation (though at the same time having a pillowy fading voice). You seriously have to love this if heavy metal fans can even appreciate it.
