Customer Reviews:
great collection of oldies & goodies.......2005-08-29
Volume 1 (pictured) has some classic bossa nova singers, mostly from the 1960s and 70s. There's a little samba, a little MPB. A few singers were nice, new surprises (like Doris Montero) to me. The compilation is not of songs worn out long ago (no 'Girl from Ipanema' even though that's the title), nor would I call it a 'Greatest Hits.' It can be called "many of the greatest singers" of that time period. Lots of flutes, some string arrangements.
The only contemporary artist is Bebel Gilberto (2000). For a great collection of more contemporary female vocalists, get CD #2 in this series.
So Nice... special thanks to Gal Costa!.......2004-10-07
This one will make you listen to it over and over. The best thing about it is the variety of styles, voices and moods, ranging from Nara Leao's soft Rapaz de Bem to Luciana Mello's rhythm-and-bluesy Quando Voce Me Olha, from the roguish Olhou Pra Mim by Doris Monteiro to the ocean-breezed Lugar Comum by Miucha, from the intoxicating groove of Jussara Silveira's La vem a Baiana to the smouldering passion of Marina Lima's Garota de Ipanema, from the misty Once I Loved by Astrud Gilberto to Gal Costa's A Ra, playful like the sunbeams in a waterfall (this one, written by Joao Donato, who also plays the piano here, is in my opinion the best song on this disk, the artful interplay of rhythms and Gal Costa's crystal-clear voice make it unsurpassed...) It's no use speaking about the rest - I think everyone can find here a song to fall in love with. This CD will light up your heart on a rainy day.
P.S. Ops, I'm speaking about the double CD "Pure Brazil: Girls From Ipanema" (it's the double CD that I have), and here the song listing is only for Disk 1... Though I think Disk 1 alone will also be ok, finally, it's somewhat better than Disk 2 of the double CD.
Incredible!!!!!!.......2004-05-28
This is an incredible compilation that really brings out the suaveness of true Brazilian Music. It has well known bossanova hits as well as rare Brazilian gems. It is the first Compilation Cd ever to have wonderful tracks from Astrud Gilberto and Bebel Gilberto. To my knowledge I have never heard these two on the same cd. This is a must have for all you Bossanova lovers.
