WHy I love Gact and this CD.......2007-03-13

I've always love this Japanese goth/Rock star singer. His real name is Gackuto Camui. He claimed to be a 500 years old vampire at one point... Or so some people said. I like his music very much. His music is very interesting because its not just those screaming rock music you hear every day. Some songs are beatiful to listen to. He can play the piano so some of the songs have piano music in it. Its also peaceful and relaxing. Some of it.

The reason I like this CD? Well, I like all of his CDs and this one is good. I recommend to anyone who's a fan of his. Its a good start if you are a starter of Gackt's fan. I've been a long time fan....

Rebirth fuels the fire started by MARS.......2006-05-01

I have read many reviews of this album online and I'm quite shocked that many people thought that this was one of his worst albums. This album was the first Gackt album I had ever purchased and cemented me as one of his fans from then on. I think one of the strongest points of this album is it's variation and Gackt's bold use of different sounds that make each song unique. I believe that what Gackt started with MARS is continued with Rebirth. I think it stands well on it's own against his previous work MARS. I will admit that it does take on a harsher sound than MARS, but that's what Gackt's all about.. change.

The first song definately sets the tone for the album. Similar to what he did in MARS, he opens with a short piece that cements the theme for the album. In all honesty the song sounds like the background music for a German art film. I love how Gackt plays with the titles of his songs, because just like the album title; 'Rebirth' can be read as 'Reverse'[they are homonyms in Japanese] 4th can also be read as 'Force' which really is the theme of the album. This song uses a lot of force and power; and clearly sets the mood for what Rebirth delivers.

The rest of this album follows with this theme, Gackt's well known single 'Secret Garden' begins and this song really is what made me a Gackt fan from the start. His vocals are strong and powerful as well as the music. Very mellon collie in nature there is a segment of the song that is very contradictory to it's overall sound. It's an amazing song and by far one of the best songs I think Gackt has ever composed.

The first six songs are all about power. 'Maria' follows 'Secret Garden' with a unique guitar sound that streams throughout the composition. It's fast paced and Gackt's voice never seems to be anything less but amazing. It's ending is quite chaotic with violins blending with the electric guitar as it all fades into the next song 'uncontrol'

I will admit I wasn't a fan of 'uncontrol' after hearing 'Maria' and 'Secret Garden' When I first played it sounded so chaotic and heavy that I thought it wasn't up to par with the first few songs. However this song has grown on me, due to the fact that it's sound is unlike anything I've heard. It's chaotic nature breaks when the chorus starts and then all of a sudden there is a cleary upbeat feeling in the song. Gackt's voice get's lighter and his voice soars and then the sound plumits back to chaos. This song lives up to it's name, because of it's contradictory sound.

'seki-ray' is one of those songs that's like a ticking time bomb. It starts with Gackt's beautiful piano, as his voice softly chimes in. In the beginning of this piece Gackt's voice is so smooth and wonderful that this song sort of puts you at ease. That is until you hit the chorus. Then there is a surge of power that drives the song from then on. I have to say that it has to be one of the best songs on this album, and a classic of his. It's very raw in it's emotion because his voice tends to shout at times, but goes back to a softer voice before hitting another climax in sound.

'Kalmia' is the last heavy song before 'Sayonara' begins. In my opinion it's a reverse of 'uncontrol'. Which is quite fitting for the album's title. It's beginning has a slightly upbeat sound and somewhere under the guitar and percussion you can hear some faint laughing. However the great thing about this song is that it takes a darker turn and the sound get's more heavier as Gackt's voice becomes deeper. It's a song that when you first listen to it, you can't recall how the song started. The ending ties in the beginning so well because that last few seconds of the song are somewhat upbeat notes. It's one of my personal favorties on this album.

'Sayonara' is a beautiful ballad. This is where the variation comes into play on 'Rebirth' After sitting through the first six songs of heavy guitar and Gackt's forceful compositions; 'Sayonara' was a breathe of fresh air. Minimalism at it's best, this song includes the sounds of Gackt's piano, and the Violin that seems to end this ballad in a powerful way. It's a very sorrowful song; the lyrics are beautiful and Gackt's voice is very smooth and rich in this piece. His composition of the Violin's solo has to be one of the best I've heard since 'Mirror' on MARS. It's a slow piece that sort of hits a resting spot on Rebirth as Gackt delivers his next piece 'Marmalade'

'Marmalade' is the 'U+K' of 'Rebirth' Very upbeat in it's sound; the biggest treat of this song is definately Gackt's voice. It's very high pitched and matches the tone of this song. The lyrics to song are mainly about the innocence of love, and I think that Gackt's voice really compliments this song so well. 'Marmalade' is another song that adds a spice of variation on 'Rebirth' It's upbeat nature is so different from the second song 'Secret Garden' that it's odd that they would appear on the same album. Either way this song really is a treat to the ears and never gets old.

'Papa lapped a pap lopped' is one of my definite favorites on this album; I think I listened to this song 14 times in succession. I just love it! It's the song I completely rock out to and it's so unique in sound and quality. Gackt's voice and composition of this song are so interesting, I could not get enough. The main high point of this song was the return of Gackt's jazzy sound that he brought us with 'Vanilla' Although it's not as sexual as Gackt's second single, I believe that it is a mirror to 'Vanilla' on MARS.

'Seven' is a driving song that kind of caught me off gaurd, because it's composition is highly reminicent of Luna Seas's songs. It's definitely a catchy song that has interesting percussion. If you listen to the drums in the background it's really hypnotic. 'Seven' is the last hard rock song on 'Rebirth' before it's closed with 'Kimi no Tameni Dekiru Koto'

'Kimi no Tameni Dekiru Koto' is the first song I've ever heard of Gackt's. So in that respect I'm a little biased when I talk about how much I love this song. Translated to 'What I Can Do for You' It's an extremly sweet love song with a more pop feel to it. There are the electric guitars that give it a more powerful punch, but overall the thing that stands out about this song is definately Gackt's voice. It's sweet tone throughout the song ends the album on a definite high note; as with the beginning of 'Kimi no Tameni Dekiru Koto' the ending ends with an orchestra of violins and the faint notes of a music box.

In retrospect after listening to this album, it does sort of transcend from darker songs to more lighter upbeat pieces; and perhaps maybe that's what Gackt wanted for 'Rebirth' to do. I do believe that this album is in no way inferior to MARS, just different. It's compiled of strong songs that are a great addition to anyone's music collection, and if that's not enough the quality of this product is amazing. The album comes in a book like case that holds the CD. There is amazing photos in book that sort provides imagery for Gackt's expressive lyrics. The album itself is worth buying even if you've never listened to Japanese Rock before...with so much variation on this album your sure to like one of songs!

Nothing But Gackt.......2005-08-20

As anyone can tell, or for those who need lots of help and need to read Gackt's auto-biography, he is neither bi nor was he with Dir en Grey. The band was Malice Mizer. Rebirth, going back to the splendour of this album, is "most definitely" one of Gackt's better albums. The only song that I haven't listened to much is Marmalade. But what ever Gackt does, whether it's doing the para para, fan-servicing through Vanilla during concerts (not a gay thing to do at all), or singing covers of John Lennon, it's all good in the hood for him. Along with Rebirth, however, if you haven't picked up "The Sixth Day ~Single Collection~", get it my friend.

Gackt was better in Dir en Grey.......2005-06-28

He's not brilliant, yet not blunt. Oh, and he sure is sexy. Look get it right! He is not GAY or BI. He's simply a straight out "pretty boy". I believe he was better off in Dir en Grey. But I'll go ahead and give this album a 3.5/5 for simply enjoying it.

A Must buy!.......2005-05-23

I have to say that anything that comes out with Gackt's name on it is a master piece. He is a God. He is the most talented Singer out there right now and not to mention he's one sexy Bishonen and he is Bisexual (look at Vanilla Live Music Video). It's a shame that not many people know about him, so I share his voice and music with everyone I can. Snap up all of his CDs you can and his Movie, Moon Child. His songs are pure talent.
