Deep River.......2006-10-07
I currently own: Deep River, Ultra Blue and Exodus and this is one of the best albums from her I have heard.
Hikki's voice and range is something that I have not heard from many American pop artists. Her style is also very unique. She doesn't fit into a specific genre and that's what makes her music so interesting and captivating. The track "Hikari" is the Japanese version of "Simple and Clean", the US opening to Kingdom Hearts, and is more powerful and attention grabbing than one would think. As with "Hikari", other tracks like "Play Ball" (track 6) draw you in and keep you mesmirized by the beat and overall flow of the song.
Simply put, this CD is worth the money.
Looks Like Rain.......2006-01-31
You can always judge a society by its pop idols. While Ayumi Hamasaki enshrines the paradigm of semi-tragic, pristine, poker-faced cyber doll, Utada Hikaru offers a healthier, more red-cheeked alternative, more like girl-next-door meets CG nature goddess.
Oh, yeh, and she ALWAYS looks like she's going to cry!!! Japanese boys probably like that.
I know good japanese music, and this is it. .......2005-11-25
Everyone. Since all the other posts have repaired Amazon.com's horrendous mistake of misleading you to believe that there are only 6 songs on this album, I will just give you my take. I listen to plenty of japanese music. The reason being that I am learning japanese, and for all of you who dont know, listening to music and watching tv is the fastest way to learn.
This album is amazing. Honestly, it hits every musical taste bud a person can possibly have. Some of you wonder whether or not its worth it to make an investment. If I were you, I would find somewhere were they play some of this music and just listen to see what its like. Once you do, you will realize that its a great great album, and its worth it. Personally, I will be honest, I didnt buy these songs. My friend had this album and I just took the songs from his. But then, I loved this album so much, I actually went out and bought it myself, just so I could say that I had it. For all you hikki fans, buy the CD. If you arent a hikki fan just borrow from your friend or find it online. Then buy the CD. (or just dont waste your time, dont be cheap and splurge the 15 bucks used) or do yourself one better and buy it for 26. you wont be dissapointed.
Great Music!.......2005-10-06
I did not expect much from Japanese pop, but this certainly changed my mind! I love this CD! It sounds whimsical, mysterious, beautiful, and erotic. I think it is a CD every Japanese pop fans should have!
Deeper into Hikki.......2005-07-09
This album is absoultely phenomenal.
I am completely amazed at how much Hikki has evolved since her 'First Love' album.
Her voice is incredibly strong and mature throughout the entire album, and her musical style has evolved as well.
She's gone from simple R&B to the most incredible hybrid blends of pop. This album has a touch of everything. It travels from the eerily beautiful sounds of 'SAKURA DROPS', to the techno/dance beats of 'traveling', into her classic R&B style in 'Shiawase ni Narou'.
The title track, 'Deep River', is a gorgeously bittersweet ballad full of flavour. 'Letters' follows right after and has an exotic, almost Spanish kind of feel about it that makes everyone around want to get up and shake their thang.
'Play Ball' is again in her old R&B style, while 'Tokyo Nights' is arguably one of the best tracks she's ever put out. It's tense, and has an urgency about it that is just so addictive.
'A.S.A.P.' is another R&B track, but is actually rather dry. 'Uso Mitaina I Love You' is an R&B/rock song which shares some elements with her song 'Simple and Clean'.
'Final Distance' is a reworked version of the track 'Distance' from her second album of the same name. The song has gone from up-beat pop, to a slow, emotional ballad that will have you either crying, or singing along....or both.
The interlude, 'Bridge', is one of my favourites from this album. It is a very short blend of synthetic beats (that sound like a heartbeat actually) and a beautiful string arrangement. It closes quietly with the heartbeat sound, then the album bursts forth into 'Hikari'. 'Hikari' is the Japanese version of 'Simple and Clean', but is even more powerful and amazing than its English counterpart. The album is worth the price for this track alone.
I've become completely addicted to this cd.
Everyone needs to own this.
