5 out of 5 stars A Great Classic Death Metal Album not for Everyone.......2006-07-14

Deicide is world class DEATH METAL . It does not matter if you like them or hate them. The ever shifting drums of Steve and extreme guitar riffing by the Hoffman brothers is considered by credible music critics as an essential example of great death metal music. The band actually helped define the early 90's death metal movement with complicated, ultra heavy music and low growling vocals of Glen Benton. Although many say that Trifixion is the favorite cut in this album, the band's compositions and performance in this album is solid and serious throughout. All songs are considered by many as classic. Even though Glen Benton hated and never accepted the Death metal music categorization, they are one of the best bands that came to existence. Although such early-'80s metal bands like Venom and the Possessed helped invent this radically heavy sound, Deicide continue to expand upon death metal's groundwork. Admittedly, Deicide's music and heavily Satanic lyrics aren't for everyone. But when everything is said and done, when gimmicks are long dead .Deicide and this album Legion will remain a death metal classic.

5 out of 5 stars Deicide's finest effort!!!.......2006-05-31

Back in the day, when i was 15 years, i bought this and for me was "pure evil". This album got everything, thrashing guitar riffs, incredible solos and excellent drums courtesy of Asheim. Glenn Benton sounds really pissed off, and i like the way he sings. This album was a huge step and major improvement by this guys in that time. Recommended!!

5 out of 5 stars GrrrrGrrrrGrrrrYeeeaaahhh!!!.......2006-03-06

This is my fav. Deicide album out of all of them. I got the 1st self-titled one 1st & liked it, but then I got this one I liked it even better. Its more technical than the 1st one (which 4 me is good, cause I LOVE technical death metal) & the song structures are better the 2nd time around. Im not much into the constant bible-bashing, but oh well... its still a good peice of death metal history. I'd say if U had to have one Deicide album in your collection, get either this one or their 1st one. Or else get them both!!! Yeeeaaahhh! Get on the ball!

2 out of 5 stars Eh... I've heard worse, and much better.......2005-12-13

Boring thrash riffs, repetitive and unimaginative drumming, stoopid lyrics and one of the most average vocalists in death metal. Legion is a flat unchanging drone from beginning to end, not unlike listening to a vacuum cleaner that occasionally changes from high to low. The guitar sound is an unimpressive weak buzzing, like radio static, heavy it's not. Back in the day this album was impressive, but listening to it (again) today I find there's really not a whole lot to Legion other than the speed. It doesn't hold up. I never really "got" Deicide anyway. Their music never propelled or moved me, unlike Morbid Angel or Death or many other American extreme metal bands of the early 90's. Ultimately Legion and Deicide aren't that interesting to me musically and the poorly concieved fascination with Satan comes across as cheesy. I'm afraid Legion is an unimaginative album from an average band.

5 out of 5 stars Deicide's thrashiest and possibly finest.......2005-11-05

Like most great death metal, "Legion" is short (29 minutes long), sweet (furious and relentless), and to the point (Glen's clear Satanic message is none-too-subtle.) Glen's vocals are somewhat typical, here, but, fortunately, this record is brimming with feverish guitars and Steve's lightning fast, uncompromising double bass drumming (making many of the songs thump like a lawn mower). And, since the guitar riffs are faster, here, than usual, this Floridian death metal group's sophomore release is also likely their thrashiest-sounding album. (Some moments, like "Satan Spawn" and "Holy Deception," bring vintage Sepultura to mind.) "Legion" is also probably Deicide's most complex album. It's less straight forward than their other releases and has more technical guitar work and complicated song structures. The first track shoots out of the gate; both guitarists go all-out, and unleash a barrage of blindingly fast, speaker shredding guitar noise. The next song, "Dead But Dreaming," features more sprinting guitar riffs and pile driving drums, and track three, "Repent To Die" works up an awesome-sounding wall of impenetrable sound. "Behead The Prophet" is another tour de force for the guitarists, who lay down even more scorching, cascading guitar riffs and even a wild solo. "In Hell I Burn" has a nice speed change with break neck guitar work and even some creepy, maniacal laughing by Glen, and, lastly, "Revocate the Agitator" is another pummeling stream roller with jackhammer drums. On later releases, Deicide would simplify their song structures and riffs, and Glen's anti-Christian message would wear thin. But, even though it was released well over a decade ago, "Legion," never gets old. This is where the band shine brightest (or...darkest), so this album has my vote for being Deicide's finest hour. Strongly recommended to death metal/Deicide fans, including newcomers.
