Customer Reviews:
Not worth your money...........2004-10-28
I recently purchased Archives from ebay for only 150 dollars. I am not a big fan of Yngwie but I wanted to see what the hype was all about. The box set lacks diversity. You can hear 2 cd's and not bother about the rest of them because he does the same thing over and over. He's a good guitarist, but I think this box set was overdone. The price is also a lot! imagine 8 cd's + 2 dvd's for 361.00! 8 cd's you can purchase used for around 10.00 and 2 dvd's for around 40.00...that makes it 120.00$ Whats the silver chain used for....who wants that unless u are one of Yngwie's family member. This is a huge investment so think and buy.
Pricey But Worth It.......2002-10-20
I just got involved in Malmsteen a few years back I was drawn to him because I was into Vinnie Vincent as a child and later in my adult life decided to see what Yngwie could do. And I must say I was blown away.
Yngwie can structure his guitar playing & shreds (unlike Vinnie) so it sounds orchestrated and beautiful, rather than following the mindless shredding of his 80s counterparts.
I would most certainly buy this box set because although it does cost a lot it is well worth it if you consider how much it would cost you for the individual imports that contain all these tracks.
Yngwie was lucky enough to escape to the East and avoid the terrible backlash that happened against the 80s guitarists, like when the other guitar shredder Vinnie was forced to go bankrupt due to a flood of lawsuits. So we will be likely to see his masterpieces for a good long time.
Massively Malmsteen!.......2002-07-15
If you are a fan of Malmsteen, you have to get this box set. If you don't own any of these albums, this set can be a great deal. You get the Japanese versions of all the CD's, many of which have bonus tracks that you can't get unless you buy the imports of the CD's, which can get to be very expensive. You also get 2 DVD's (which play in America), which are good. Great buy, if you are a big Malmsteen fan.
8 albums and 2 DVDs.......2001-07-03
Made in JAP in 2001, Serial# PCCY-01501, Playing Time 456:35
That's right! 7-and-a-half hours of music on the 8 CDs, plus 2 DVDs (region 1, rejoice!): 1994's "Live at Budokan", 107 min., plus 1998's "Live!!" for another 81 min.
If you're curious about what this item is all about, I won't talk about the quality of the music (you probably know about that, otherwise you wouldn't be looking at this item!)
This collection of releases begins with his recordings post Polydor (the latter have already been re-mastered and made available in LP-style jackets).
It's packaged in a cube (about 6" per side) containing each of the 10 discs in its own jewel case, and also includes a necklace with a cross made of sterling silver, bagged in a leather mini-pouch; too bad the artwork on the box is simply printed in a gold/amber ink: gold foil would have been better, like what they used to print "Yngwie Malmsteen Archives".
Each disc has been repackaged (to display the new serial number on each booklet and each disc), and each CD has been remastered using 24-bit technology. Here's what's included:
Discs 1 to 7 are "The Seventh Sign", "Magnus Opus", "Inspiration", "Facing The Animal", "Concerto Suite..." with the "rock" artwork, "Alchemy" and "War To End All Wars" respectively. Each is the japanese pressing generally containing 1 or 2 bonus tracks, with customized picture disc artwork.
Disc 8 is a specially newly expanded version of the "I Can't Wait" EP, this time containing 9 tracks (instead of 5). Added are an edited version of "Power And Glory", as well as 3 tracks from the "Anthology 1994-1999": "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!", "Flamenco Diablo", and the spectacular "Amadeus Quattro Valvole".
It's the first time in over 200 reviews, at least as far as I can remember, that I review an item without listening to it at least 3 times. But it sure was tempting!
And if you don't know about this Swedish guitar player, it's pronounced "ing-vay", not "ying-wee"...
