Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars DT xperimenting for a new path, yet still legends they are.........2001-02-28

As a seperate album "Haven" is a bit confusing to evaluate. If you're a sheer death metal fan, you'll probably hate or at least hesitate before buying this record. However, when compared with previous works of D.T. it earns a clearer value and you get a more conscious sentiment.

As "The Gallery", "The mind's I" and "Projector" are in sequence the best albums of D.T. so far, "Haven" would be in the bottom of the list, even below (or equal to) "Skydancer" (though both are totally different in styles).

If you hopelessly love "The gallery" & " The mind's I" and can't think of life without their burning melodies, you'll probably stay indifferent to "Haven", you might even think it's the worst record of Dark Tranquillity (I'd rather call it the least perfect). On the other hand, if you idiotically think that "Gallery" and its twin sucks, then you'll desperately need to burn your tasteless brain, AND you'll probably think "Haven" is the best of D.T.

If you -just like me- admire the innovation in "Projector", your attitude will be hardly predictable. You might just love it or fully hate it. But since both albums are in the same musical direction, you'll favor it anyway, much or less.

In additon, D.T.'s records after "the mind's I" take you some time to judge. I couldn't decide whether "projector" was lacking spirit or another masaterpiece by the masters of The Gothenburg Sound before I looped it at least 15 times. "Haven" is much more like that in the means of valuableness. So non-DT persons should definitelly give it a try. The best songs of this album are: - Not Built to Last - Haven - Ego Drama

And the "brillient" tracks are: - Emptier Still (It's not a second "Lethe" but its really emotion-full) - At Loss Of Words - Feast of burdan (not Beast!!)

This IMPORT cd here has a an extra track: "cornered". It's also a song over the average of "Haven" and could be considered as a very good piece. As for the video track; first of all it's not "There Is" !!! It's "There In" .. It's a song from "Projector" and is worth spending your money just to watch Mikael Stanne's trans-mode of singing (unconsciously dancing?).

At the end, rather than claiming that DT has sold out, it's more logical to see this record as an experiment and a good step to DT's innovation of sound. I think the only sad news here is that the legendary Niklas Sundin is not present musically and no magical words from him in this album (don't know why). His only "visible" contribution is the layout and the art of the CD (which is another addition to his masterpieces-collection".

Finally, if you're a D.T. fan, you are obliged to own "Haven", and buying is one way.
