Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Incoming From The US.......2001-10-29

HAHA, I'm the only one so far from the United States who has reviewed this cd. Sadly, Earthtone9 isnt too big here. Retarded American youth I tell ya. I feel proud to be the only one reviewing this from the US. Anyways...This Cd is marvelous. The emotion and aggression are unmatched. Check out Lo-Def(inition) Discord and Arc' Tan' Gent by Et9 also...all are excellent albums.

4 out of 5 stars earth shattering.......2001-01-05

Nottinghams' finest present their second full length album which is a showcase of passion, creativity and expert musical composition. "Grind and Click" is the sledge hammer attack on your senses that introduces the album and is an extremely powerful track. A song which has before, when played live, resulted in the destruction of my local rock club. The more brutal tracks which reside on this album all carry enough melody to break up any sense of repetition but it is the pure intensity and versatility that are the trademarks of Earthtone 9. Imagine the intensity of "Will Haven" with the song structures of "Tool". Vocalist Karl embraces emo style melodic vocals but the hardcore scream is never far away. Part of the beauty of the band is the diversity, both vocally and musically. Things tone down briefly for "0...0...0..." and "Enertia 65800" which are two mellow, bass-driven songs. The vocals are more sombre but the passion still flows. "0...0...0..." is more laid back with a great thrash finale. Personal favourite "Enertia 65800" is truly hypnotic, Karl's' vocals are nothing short of beautiful. I've always been partial to metal bands playing a peaceful song as there's always the feeling of `calm before the storm', and true to form this track brews into quite a storm - 6 perfect minutes! The two most dynamic and powerful songs are the opener "Grind + Click" and "Zechariah Rush". Gentler instrumental track "Moe=ra(t-talk)" swings the mood a bit, but halfway through things take a turn to the dark side. "Off Kilter Enhancement" is a gem, the rewards of an Earthtone 9 album are the feelings of having been challenged and engaged as you journey through the moods, melodies and madness. Certainly the album which establishes the band, it shows how in control they are and their ability to write songs, so much more depth and dimension than a lot of the standard nu-metal bashing around today. The bass-swamped thrash hardcore can often be abrasive to the ear but there's so much more on offer than pure aggression. Lyrically I'd have to confess I had no idea what Karl was ranting about for the entire album but I'm certainly curious. If you want a nu-metal band which feels fresh Earthtone 9 will rock your socks off. If justice is done Earthtone 9 may one day be recognised by the big wide world.

5 out of 5 stars origionality in a sea of booshiz.......2000-12-22

i first heard earthtone 9 back in 98, when i picked up their cd almost by accident, and got into my car with my best friend. within minutes of 'withered', i knew what i had been missing all these years. the first album is better in my opinion, but off kilter enhancement is also spectacular in its entirety; wait until you hear the song 'enertia 65800', and '0...0...0...', they're just amazing masterpieces. there is no way to define their style, and to try to compare them to ish like one minute silence is ridiculous, because there are no similarities. these songs can go from haunting beauty and wind up erupting into chaotic wailing. get their new cd 'arc tan'gent', too.

5 out of 5 stars A cool album from a cool british band.......2000-10-20

This album is amazing. I know Earthtone9 aren't a household name yet but you need to check this band out. Out of the three albums the band have done I would say this is the best starting point. Opener `Grind and click' is a archetypal E9 classic, mixing brutal heavy riffs with a small semblance of melody, while at the other end of the spectrum is `0...0...0...' a melancholic Kyuss meets Alice in chains track. I must also mention the excellent `Zechariah rush', a real epic sludgefest which really grows on you after a couple of spins. I don't really want to find comparison points with other bands because E9 have a really unique thing going on but it's fair to say that if you like Will haven, Deftones, Snapcase and Tool, then this is the sort of thing you are going to love. Original, challenging, brutal and rewarding are words to describe this album. Far superior to any contrived and manufactured MTV nu-metal.

4 out of 5 stars Just cos they're English...........2000-10-02

Everyone always compares these boys to somebody. Coalesce? Sneaker Pimps? what is that all about? The truth is, Earthtone9 are simply awesome in their own right, they may bow their constructive heads to bands like Tool, Quicksand, and a little Iron Monkey, but to compare them to the likes of Pulkas and One Minute Silence is criminal, its only because they're English. I havn't felt this way about an album since 1996's 'Aenema' From the legendary Tool. Just wait till you guys hear the new album, it's a stormer, I would give it 6 if I could.
