A varied collection from the stalwart metal festival.......2006-06-30

Wacken is known around the world as one of the most successful and longest running hard rock and metal festivals. This is a collection of tunes from bands who have played the gig over it's history. It should be noted that these aren't performances from the actual festival but just tunes from the bands that have been there. Thus we get a good spread of the hard music spectrum, from the black/death of Dimmu Borgir to the more thrash leanings of Overkill and Sodom right through to the traditional metal of Savatage, Metal Church and Rage. Hard rock is also represented as we get tracks from DAD, Doro and there is also power metal such as Hammerfall and Primal Fear. Heck, there are even tunes by Angra and Stratovarius - what do you call them? Melodic power metal??

Whether you buy this grab bag of goodies is very much based on your personal preferences. Taking a look at the track listing will probably tell you if your collection needs this, or if you've been to Wacken (and plenty of people have) you might find this a cool little reminder of the gig. For the general metal fan it all comes down to if there are enough bands here you haven't heard, as an intro to a whole bunch of acts this isn't a bad double disc to purchase especially if you can grab it cheap.

For me, personal faves of disc one would include the tracks by:
Savatage, Pretty Maids, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian, Sodom and Doro.
Disc two highlights would comprise:
DAD, Angra and Stratovarius, the latter band providing a cover of the Scorpions Blackout.

The Best Metal Has To Offer On One CD!.......2000-06-16

The Wacken Open-Air Festival has become an institution. This CD captures this institution and gives you the best there is to offer. It collects all forms of metal that have played at Wacken and presents them in all their Live Glory on this 2 disk set. Be it speed, fantasy, death, black, hardcore, etc... it's all here. The quality is low on some of the songs, but overall the sound is surprisingly good on this CD. I would suggest this CD for anyone who lives metal and wants a collection that will get plenty of time in their CD player. A listing of the bands...
