Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars metal doesn't have to be dumb.......2004-06-20

Tired of hard-alterna-nu-metal from bands that can't keep referances to "smack" or "mud" out of their names and all end up sounding like a weak tea version of their influences? Enter miocene. yes, baby, this is HARD rock, but performed with thought, artistic inspiration, and most importantly, honest energy. Balls to the wall Energy.

Sure, you'll catch occcasional glimpses of influences like Tool, Deftones & Rage Against the Machine if you listen for them, but you can initially expect to be swept up in a coordinated sonic blitzkreig that makes you wish you were getting the utter crap beat out of you in a mosh pit in a sweaty London club. Nothing is held back, all 4 members are pushing their limits, not meekly testing them... one can only marvel at the number of busted strings, blown amps, shattered sticks and shredded vocal cords that went into this production.

And this is just their freshman effort, folks. Their sophomore release, Cellular Memory, takes off into an even higher level of passion and originality, with a depth that you get a glimpse of in "Free Reign". Rumors of a third release? I anticipate such with a hunger lesser bands will never inspire in me.

5 out of 5 stars heavy, british, great music!.......2002-04-10

miocene are a great young band from the UK! 'refining the theory' was their 1st mini album containing 6 tracks lasting about 60 minutes! they have just released a new e.p. 'cellular memory', which is a lot different to this album! very trippy kinda dj shadow like (dj shadow helps out on one song) and it is also excellent! anyway download 'fits like that' and if you are a metal fan there is no way in hell you wont like that song! i have seen them twice live at newcastle uni. and they kicked [***] both times! everyone one keeps describing them as a mix between tool and the deftones, i dont think that is correct they have their own sound (especially after the release of the new e.p.) but how can they be bad if they are compared to them two bands!??! you ain't gonna get no limp bizkit from this!

5 out of 5 stars Astounding.......2000-12-14

Miocene are a fantastic band, displaying exactly why the British UK scene is so amazing right now. From the start this mini-album explodes with energy, with an essence of bands such as Tool with the lyrical ability of Tori Amos and even Portishead. The overall sound isn't your average, run-of-the-mill metal... it sounds fresh and energetic. stand out tracks are "9mm High And Rising", "Pure" and "Free Reign".

Check them out, they're worth the [money]!
