4 out of 5 stars Review from a guy who doesn't wear black.......2007-03-05

First of all, I have basically every Zeppelin cd, plus several live cds and about 10 LZ tribute cds. I bought this one, daring to risk being assaulted by screeches and guitars scraped down a blackboard. I was surprised at the high quality of each song.

To appreciate this work, you would need to appreciate raspy voices, harsher slashing guitar, sinister tones, and songs intended to be played even louder than the group's studio works. I now know why there was "Communication Breakdown" ... the guy lost his voice!

The first thing that I did was to purge my space of the death-promoting info insert. Yep, I won't be able to tell you who sings in each of the 12 bands who did these remakes. Trust me, they all dressed in black and posed in the meanest or angriest looks possible. No, wait, one band held up a house fan, I guess to convey that they are big fans. clever.

The track selection scores 10/12. I would have picked other songs over "Wearing and Tearing" and "Out On The Tiles." Maybe "No Quarter" or "Over The Hills And Far Away" or "Mystic Mountain Hop" or "Dazed And Confused" or "The Song Remains The Same."

If you need background music for a halloween party, or miss being growled at by your missing Doberman, this cd is for you.

I first listened to the whole cd while walking at night along the beach. As the words to "Achilles Last Stand" were sung -- "the Devil's in his hole" -- a red moon began to rise over the flat ocean. Just as the Devil and the moon cannot produce their own light, these songs reflect the originals in length and lyrics, and yet offer a sound twist that is worth a listen.

3 out of 5 stars Interesting.......2006-05-21

This is a merger of some of my two favorite things, Led Zeppelin and Death/Speed Metal. It is an interesting yet wierd take on Zeppelin. Mind you, the artists transform the originals into their own renditions. The best track on the album is Immigrant Song. The rendition keeps as close to the original as possible but the artist adds some haunting goth vocals. This album is definately not for those die-hard fans of Led Zeppelin, but is a great album for those Metal fans.

2 out of 5 stars Led Zeppelin black metal style - doesn't work.......2006-01-26

I have been a die-hard Led Zeppelin fanatic for most of my life and have collected many LZ tribute recordings. This one is a disappointment. I just don't think Led Zep was meant to be performed in a death metal / black metal format. The only song on here really that I liked a lot was Kashmir - Silent Stream Of Godless Elegy. Communication Breakdown was OK, and Solus version of Rock and Roll - your basic double bass drums and super-fast riffs typical of music of the genre. Most of the rest of it - well, I'll just suffice it to say, I personally was disappointed with this release, but black metal fans (which I am not) might like it OK. The positive reviews on this CD look like they were posted by those who lean more towards the gothic style of rock.

4 out of 5 stars An interesting take on a seminal influence for metal.......2005-11-08

I am a big fan of Led Zeppelin. I am also a fan of metal. This album seems to be a fitting tribute by a number of less well known death metal bands to an important influence in all modern metal. I have to say that while I'm a huge fan of Zep, I do not seem them as some kind of sacred cow. So many of the other reviewers seem to feel that this is a humorous album. I do not think it is, as long as you can remember that while Led Zeppelin is a great band, they are just that - a band. These songs are a serious attempt at a tribute in my opinion, and it gives them short shrift to think of it as a joke. I like the interpretations of these classic Zep songs and found the effort worthwhile for both metal fans and for fans of Zep. I won't deny, you do have to be willing from the start to hear some classic songs re-interpreted and this can sometimes be off-putting to some hardcore Zep fans. I think they should give this album a chance. And to the people who reviewed it and didn't even hear the actual full album or even buy it, well, I can't say much more than for shame!

4 out of 5 stars A new experience.......2005-06-04

This album is, quite frankly, hilarious. particuarly amusing were immigrant song, communication breakdown and rock and roll.
Buy this album simply because it is completely ridiculous.
