Motorhead - 'Iron Fist &The Hordes From Hell' (Cleopatra).......2004-10-08
I was going to give this CD a three star rating, but I decided to give it four stars for two reasons.First, the newly done(for THIS release anyway)cover and the fact that I thought the live nine track gig sounds better that it did when it was ORIGINALLY put out on a $2.99 cassette under the title 'What's Words Worth?'.'Iron Fist...' was recorded at a gig the band played at the Roundhouse on February 18,1978 with,of course the classic Motorhead line-up of Lemmy on bass/vocals,Fast Eddie Clarke on guitar and Philthy Animal Taylor on drums.Make no mistake, this is pure vintage Motorhead and I honestly can believe there's nothing quite like it.The better tunes are "The Watcher"(sounds different than when Lemmy penned this tune for Hawkwind at the time),"Iron Horse/Born To Lose","I'm Your Witch Doctor" and "City Kids"(which used to be a Pink Fairies tune). There are even four pages of liner notes from acclaimed music critic Dave Thompson. You know, the one that's usually tough on all bands.
Lemmy has no groove, yet..........2000-06-17
It may have been a glimpse of the future at the time, but by today's standards (and Motorhead's) it just falls flat. It has some high points, but most of it is just drunk wailing. If you like that kind of thing. It's the calibre of your average bar band. I give it 3 stars, because I can't give it 2.5 .
